How to Keep Your Sanity in Check During the Holiday Season

While many people look forward to the holidays all year long and can’t wait for the season to begin, for others it signals the start of a lot of stress and even bouts of depression. Even if you don’t suffer from depression all year long, the holidays can be very tough and trigger those buried feelings. This time of year can be difficult for those with money problems, going through relationship issues, going through a divorce, or having a tough time at work.

So how can you make it through the holiday season starting with Thanksgiving, keeping your sanity in check, and not letting the stress and worry get the better of you? Here are some tips that you may find helpful and that are meant to get you through that month and a half of non-stop activity.

Take Time for Yourself

It can be very easy to get caught up in all the things you “should” be doing at this time of year leaving very little time for yourself. This is why it’s important to set time aside where you get to relax and do things just for you. Maybe that might be curling up with a book you’ve been meaning to read. If you’re a reader you can browse through the “must read” lists readily available at the major online bookstores, or even ask for recommendations from friends.

This type of food and drink will end up making you feel sluggish and tired, and wont’ give you the nutrients you need to stay healthy and strong. Don’t forget, this is also cold and flu season, so making sure you eat a healthy, well balanced diet will help you to fight the germs that are making their rounds.

Even following these tips the holiday season can still be very difficult on people. Be kind to yourself and do the best you can to make it through with as little stress and pressure as possible.
