The Might of Meekness

One of the verses of scripture I’ve learned to not only love, but honor is found in the Book of Wisdom, Proverbs 16:18-19 which says: Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the proud. Often when we speak on the subject of pride, it is from the perspective of finding it in others. Which leaves us vulnerable to deception where our lives are concerned.

Several years ago I was in a management position for a tailor shop in Philadelphia. Being a chain establishment, my store was constantly compared to similar stores, which also determined our annual budget. In this environment of sales and conference calls with our district manager, it wasn’t hard to develop a competitive nature.  God finds nothing wrong with us engaging in friendly competition with each other, but the spirit behind our actions must always be checked.
