The second century Catholics baptized anything willing in pursuit of more and more converts. They did not insist that they believe the scriptures or the gospel story before baptism. They were allowed to continue praying to pagan gods and goddesses and using idols and icons. This went on for over a century until the council of Nicaea insisted that new adult converts believe the bible truths contained in the Nicean creed. You actually have to know a lot of theology to have a good working knowledge of the beliefs referred to in the Nicean creed. The Catholics still pray to pagan gods and goddesses, they just have given them Christian names and call them saints. The Catholics will never get rid of their idols & icons.
