EC suspends officer who checked Modi’s chopper in Odisha

Election Commission suspended an officer Wednesday for allegedly checking helicopter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was held for about 15 minutes at one place in Odisha’s Rourkela a day before.

Mohammed Mohsin was posted as General Observer of Sambalpur in Odisha and is learned to not have acted in conformity with the EC’s instructions concerning SPG protectees.

EC took action against the 1996 batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer on the basis of a report from district collector and DIG of police.

A senior official said, “Checking of the prime minister’s chopper, undertaken at Sambalpur, was not in accordance with the EC guidelines as SPG protectees are exempt from such checking.”

Similarly, the officer checked chopper of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Peetroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan too on Tuesday by the flying squad.

Meanwhile, on the other front the Bharatiya Janata Party is fielding Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur from Bhopal seat and she is to combat with Congress heavyweight and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh.

Sadhvi Pragya is out on bail. She is facing trial in 2008 Malegaon blast case even though NIA court has dropped charges against her under stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). She said to have already started working on election campaigning.

A day before Yoga guru Ramdev urged people to cast their votes in favor of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and make Narendra Modi prime minister once again as only he can protect the country.
