Sao Miguel das Missoes Brazil, A Mission Forced to Abandon its Converts

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Brazil is a huge country, well known for its carnivals, rich coffee, fantastic soccer players, and diverse heritage. One of its most remarkable archaeological sites is the São Miguel das Missões. This is an extraordinary example of 18th century architecture in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sol that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

The Jesuit Order Province and Indian Reductions

To understand the importance and the saga of the mission, it is necessary to understand the history of the Jesuits in this part of Latin America. The Jesuit Order is a religious order has been significant in the Roman Catholic Church for centuries as they were active in the conversion of indigenous people to Christianity during the colonial era.

The Spanish government, in particular, granted them various privileges and allowed them to establish missions among the native peoples. These were called ‘Indian Reductions’ and the indigenous people were persuaded or forced to live here so that they could be Christianized and ‘civilized’.

The Jesuits came into being in 1540 by Ignatius of Loyola reputedly an adult learner profoundly ignorant of the Bible in his original education in a country where it was required reading, amoungst his converts was Francis Xavier who eventaully lost to William Adams in Japan.

The sect gained little ground in Europe and was often ridiculed until it founded Jesuit Missions in the New world, there it managed to save native souls before they were worked to death as slaves in the 40 million genocide by Spain/Portugal in the Americas, and gained enough noriety in the Church to send its second mission to the Far East, China Macau(Michele Ruggieri-Mater Dei ) as an door to China and the conversion of its population which flopped and Japan, Bungo provice(Francis Xavier)- ultra sucessful, Xavier discovered you must abandon the poor in Japan, court nobility only, wear the finest clothes and have the best table manners to be seen as even legitmiate. So sucessful they built a Catherdral.

Christianity endangered the state in Japan by introducing the Papacy as suprieme authority on Earth which was unnacceptable to Tokugawa Ieyasu the last shogun of the country at war period, Adams was the sole person willing to inform Ieyasu of the history of the Roman Empire, its division and that the Papacy was a breakaway faction of the Christian sects, but by far the most militant and persecuting, i.e. Cathars, Gnostics and the original Diciaples, he would also have informed him of Paul(Saul) the first pope who founded the church by wiping out the original followers of Joshua and constructing the faith under doctrines(Jesuits had LAtin Bibles, which the natives were never allowed to read or study unless they became Jesuits at a seminary school). The fact Spain/Portugal were just finishing the process of enslaving and wiping out the natives of the Americas and that Japan had been given to Spain by the Pope was also made known, as in youre next. Adams died in Japan after the death of Ieyasu, he remarried never saw his wife and child again and lived just a few years after the death of his friend in Edo, where he was buried in a Temple built dedicated to his memory as the navigator(Anjin) who saved Japan as the Christian rebellions were quashed which took several decades after his death.

The Jesuits or Society of Jesus went on to become WIDELY RESPECTED and hated at the same time for being one of the most literate and extremely devout theologians, who are often depicted as spies and assassins which is odd because nobody ever caught one which must show how good they were.
