Object of Congress-mukt Bharat of BJP cannot be met: Mani Shankar Aiyar

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said the Gandhi family need to be active within the party and so Rahul Gandhi should remain as their chief provided his own wishes are met.

Talking to the press the former union minister added, “I am sure we can survive if we have to without a Nehru-Gandhi as the titular head of the party, provided the Nehru-Gandhis remain active in the party and can help resolve a crisis in case serious differences arise.”

After about a month following the result of Lok Sabha elections, Congress is yet on the search mode to find a replacement to Rahul Gandhi.

Mani Shankar Aiyar further continued media should not speculate the matter but wait for the deadline whether a replacement is found or Rahul Gandhi gets persuaded.

He added it is not a matter of personalities but the objective of Bharatiya Janata Party to have Gandhi-mukt Congress is known but the intention is to have a Congress-mukt Bharat.

Congress should not be getting trapped into the objective of BJP that the party is unable to find a chief, said the 78-year-old leader.

Mani Shankar Aiyar further said, “If you simply cut off the head then the chicken may start fluttering as it does in the animal kingdom.”

He cited instances from the past when non-Gandhi members became Congress chief. He named UN Dhebar and Brahmananda Reddy too.
