I have some old locks that I cant find the keys for and I am going to try this! Thanks N!

Pinky, these videos and this article were to demonstrate how weak these locks really are..

I have to admit, I was rather surprised at how easy it is to pick these locks and with almost anything you can find..

And Pinky, if you are in a survival situation, you may not have a hammer readily available.

I like the way you think, though.

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions. Very informative indeed.

        Anytime Mr. Bobby.

I noticed that you post a lot of articles dealing with personal security and safety, which is good. This is important because the general impression I get is that crime is increasing worldwide due to the slow-motion crash we’re seeing in all the markets. I live in Germany and because of the migrant crisis, we have (by some reports) a TEN-FOLD increase in crime here!
I’ve been noticing more and more gangs of young Muslim men roaming the streets late at night to the point where even I don’t feel safe anymore. Also found out that I have the only Mosque in my town literally round the corner from me opposite the 24 hour gas station where I used to be able to buy cigarettes late at night. Not only do I not walk there any more, but if I do get into a situation where I need cigarettes late at night I’ll actually drive 20 km across town where there are no migrants who STARE at me like I just popped on over from Mars or something. I guess they got no blonde-haired blue-eyed hippy dudes where they’re from.

      Hello Angle3(prelim),

Charlie here. What is going on??? You just showed the hardest methods to open locks. There is a video that purportedly shows you only need a hammer and lightly tap it and it will open.

Why is that not shown Angle3(prelim)???

I have come to realize most all key locks and combination locks are virtually useless thanks to these guys.

      Signed,

Charlie (who keeps his doughnuts in vaults)

Uhhhh, Charlie is over here angle#3(prelim).

Don’t worry he won’t bite unless you are doughnut!

Gotta say I was impressed!!! Wonder if you’d get in even faster with an Alpo lid?

All he’s doing is making pick tools out of everyday objects. You still have to know how to apply the right amount of tension, & you still have to have the torque tool. Just practice. Then, when you get good, keep practicing! You’ll lose your sense of “feel” if you stop practicing

I don’t know much about locks, but your advice ,I think, is definitely relative to women.

Id like to see this demonstrated on different padlock designs instead of the same master brand each time. Very interesting though, thanks alot for sharing this.

That’s nothing. I once hacked a combination safe I had found thrown out curbside. There was definitely something inside, and my curiosity was intolerable.
This particular safe, I had found out, used 3 numbers from 0-99, HOWEVER the “gates” in the 3 cylinders are not spaced every digit apart. There’s only 10 of them per cylinder. I managed to find out the last number, which I did by moving the dial every digit and seeing how far the handle would go. Where it goes down by the most is where the last number is. Next, I printed out a list of all 10,000 number combinations for the first 2 numbers. While it’s true that there are in fact only 10 x 10 or 100 different combinations, I did not know at that time that each of the cylinders had only 10 gates, and even if I did I would not have known their locations. Anyway, with my list of 10,000 different combinations I proceeded to try each and every one of them. I did so at random throughout the list, crossing off the ones I had tried. I did 100 of them every day. After exactly 17 days I hit paydirt and opened the safe.
So what was inside? Just some old tools. But, knowing that I should have the exact combination, and not an approximate one, I took apart the lock mechanism and found it.
However, key locks have always been my undoing. Back when I lived in NYC I had a Subaru, and I used that car mostly for business. Wanting to have a crappier car for just hanging out, I bought another Subaru. One day I got into my business Subaru and proceeded to go about my day. Lo and behold, the key would not come out of the lock no matter what. I could shut it off though and turn it back on. Nobody, not even my mechanic could get that key out of that lock. Later I found out that I had substituted the key for the business Subaru with that for my personal Subaru because they looked exactly the same. So from then on I would use the spare key I had, which means I could leave it running while locked during my various winter excursions, always being able to get into a nice warm car. Th Silver lining behind the cloud.
Fast backwards to eastern Europe. Me and 2 friends had just copped massive amounts of liquour after having left the Lonely Hearts Club bar, where a man had just committed suicide by slitting his own throat. We were intent on continuing our partying activities at my apartment and I proceeded to open the main door downstairs. I applied just the slightest pressure to do so, and the key broke off inside the lock, which I theorised could have been due to the sudden temperature change, being that it was -30C that night. It was 3am and I didn’t want to wake up Mr. Pisarovitch the building superintendent. So I told one of my friends to climb up the lightning rod onto my balcony, break the lower window panel of the balcony door, get in, retrieve my spare keys and open the door from the inside. He does this, and as he’s opening the front door, the other key breaks off inside the lock as well. So he gets out on the balcony and say that the only way we’re getting into the apartment is if he throws down his military gloves and boots and we each use them to climb up the lightning rod (he was undergoing forced military service at that time). So we did this, and proceeded to party as if nothing happened. Next morning around 11am we get awakened by Pisarovitch knocking on my door asking for [equivalent] of 20 bucks because (obviously) nobody could get in or out of the house and they had to call a locksmith and had to have the lock changed. How on earth he knew that I was the one responsible eludes me to this day. Fixing the balcony door’s window was more expensive at about 35 USD [equivalent].
That was New Year’s Eve / New Year’s Day 1997.

I love bypassing locks. I never fear being locked-out.

When I was a kid we figured out how to pick the cheap master locks with a small nail. Was a snap, in fact we lost the key.

    • putupjob

locks like this can definitely be busted. one time i was at an industrial site with a “secure” lockup container.
we had to get in one, and one of the maintenance people showed up with a bobby pin and was in the thing in less than a minute. he was a lock smith. that told me a lot.

    • BrokenRage

Being able to open up a lock on your own is a good skill and can help in different situations. But I think in most cases the more reliable choice is to let specialists do this job. For instance, this firm https://emergencylocksmithvancouver.ca/locksmith-locations/richmond/ offers such services.
