Thanksgiving Day Foods You Can Give Your Dog

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Did you know you can share many of the Thanksgiving foods you love with your best friend? Check out this list of foods that are safe to share with Fido! He’ll be grateful!

My dogs are included in all of my life’s celebrations. In the category of celebrations is, of course, Thanksgiving! With this delicious holiday right around the corner, I want to share some ways in which you can include your dogs on Thanksgiving Day!

Include Dogs in Your Thanksgiving Celebration

Watch the dog show: I admit that one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving Day is watching the National Dog Show! Cuddle up with your pups and watch all of the beautiful dogs strut their stuff. It’s always fun to daydream about showing dogs (which I’ll probably never do because I believe in spay/neuter!). What’s better than cheering on dogs as part of your Thanksgiving festivities?

Go on a walk or hike: This year I have created a Thanksgiving week challenge, which entails taking your dog on a walk every single day of that week. Take a nice morning stroll on Thanksgiving Day or go on one in the evening to walk off all of those delicious calories 😉

Share your feast: Your dog deserves some Thanksgiving goodies, so be sure to share! Remember to only share foods that are safe for dogs to ingest. Consult your veterinarian with any questions or concerns.

Cuddle by the fireplace: I can finally say that I have a fireplace! Yay! I’ve been taking full advantage and my dogs love it! Grab some hot cocoa and a blanket, and cuddle up with your pups in front of the fire. How cozy!

Play fetch or frisbee: In Arizona we typically have nice weather on Thanksgiving Day. You can bet there will be some fun outdoor games going on that day!

Play indoor games: I know many states already have snow. If you are in a place with snow, play some indoor games like ‘hide and seek’ with your dog. You can also teach them some new tricks using Thanksgiving food as positive reinforcement. Yum!

My dogs are gone now. However, having family visit during the holidays and all the excitement it generates for the dogs it helps to give them a good meal too. I used to give them a large plate of turkey, gravy and potatoes. They would lay down and eat it and give a sigh and go to sleep. The children could not rile them up and a slightly overstuffed dog does not cause trouble. It’s kind of cruel to not give them some, they have spent hours smelling the wonderful scents coming from the oven. Just take it easy on the seasoning, onions specially as they are not really good for dogs.
