You Can Have a Miracle Today

John 2

11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.

13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Pastor Joseph Chambers / Paw Creek Ministries

I have never needed to live in God’s miracles more than today. Just as it is important to me, I want you to learn to live in the supernatural world of a Bible-believing Christian.  Miracles and our God are inseparable.  If a church is not experiencing miracles, something is wrong.  If a Christian does not believe in the miracles of bodily healing, how can they believe in the miracle of redemption from sin?  Salvation of the soul is deeper, richer, and more profound than the healing of the body.  Yet, we claim the salvation of our soul and cannot claim the healing of our body.  Something is wrong with our theology.

God is “Naturally Supernatural”

It is as natural for God to be supernatural as it is natural for you and me to be natural.  The whole Bible is a supernatural document.  It is the one and only legal document by which the entire universe must be governed.  The Bible judges every action of the human race.  Even the devil is utterly governed by the Bible if and when we believe in and live by this supernatural book.  His final days and judgment will be determined by the prophecies of the Holy Book.

The Church In The Wilderness

The church in the wilderness experienced an endless list of miracles far beyond what we believe and live by today.  Stephen spoke of this church and how the Rock, Jesus Christ, was in the camp of Israel.  “This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:  To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt.”  (Acts 7:37-39)

Let’s witness just a little of the supernatural life that those who trusted God in their wilderness-passing experienced.  Remember their wilderness was a type of the Christian life and a type of our journey to the Promised Land.  Apostle Paul spoke by the Holy Ghost. “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” (I Corinthians 10:1-4)

This journey through the wilderness was filled with many supernatural experiences.  When they reached the Red Sea and found that the Egyptians had come to capture them and return them to Egypt, they were terribly afraid.  “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”  (Exodus 14:13-14)  I love that assurance, and we all must learn to live by this statement from God Himself. “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

The great story that follows is overwhelming.  This is the God we serve, and He is no respecter of persons.  The New Covenant is many times greater than the Old Covenant.  The old is but a shadow of the new, and yet we live beneath the standard of the old, even further beneath the new.  We must change this as we approach the end, because nothing else is going to work.  Our world is under siege by diabolical powers and living a Biblical life requires supernatural powers.  Look at how God delivered them out of the grasp of the world’s greatest army at that time.  To be assaulted by Pharaoh and his chariots of warfare with his mighty hardened warriors was sure destruction.  No wonder the Israelites were affrighted.  But, “the battle was the Lord’s.”

You must get this picture, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me?” (Exodus 14:15a)  Doesn’t that sound familiar?  We whine and doubt and are fearful and murmuring when God is always ready to do the impossible for us.  Then God said, “…Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.  And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.  And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.  And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:  And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.  And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.  And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.  And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.  And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.  And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.  And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.  And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.”  (Exodus 14:15b-28)

Acts 3

Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

What breathtaking truth! We should read this story often to remind ourselves of our God.  Even Egyptian history shows this abrupt end of an Egyptian dynasty.  Not one soldier or chariot was left of the world’s greatest army because God acted supernaturally to defend His chosen.  And this was just the beginning.  This multitude of at least two million souls was miraculously fed, clothed, and healed in the midst of a dangerous and infested desert.  The Psalmist David spoke by the Spirit and recounted many of God’s acts.

“In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.  He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.  He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.”  “Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?”  “And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.  Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.  He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.  He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:  And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.  So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire.”  (Psalm 78:14-16,20,24-29)

The Bible tells us how He healed all their diseases and kept their shoes and clothes from wearing out for forty years. “And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” (Exodus 15:25-26) “And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.” (Deuteronomy 29:5)

Every miracle that He did in the wilderness He is doing today when there is that need and when it is coupled with unflinching faith in Him.  One of the worst sins in Biblical history was and still is the sin of murmuring and unbelief.  When we doubt Him, we break His heart.  Israel could have reached the Promised Land in months giving time for God’s revelations on Mount Sinai and the erecting of the Tabernacle, but it took over forty years.  They would not trust Him even after many supernatural miracles.

Miracles and Today’s Church

The “New Covenant” world of the church should be the center of miracles.  The First Testament records miracles from Genesis to Malachi.  The Second Testament is also a Holy Ghost script, and miracles were the order from Matthew to Revelation.  Anyone who believes miracles have ceased is deceived.  God can no more be present by His Holy Spirit without there being miracles than the sun could be cold instead of hot.  Miracles are God’s will for His people.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, eternally divine, came to earth in a wonderful supernatural atmosphere.  His conception in the womb of Mary was without the aid of flesh.  Conceived by the Holy Ghost, He was the Eternal Son of God while also the Son of man, and the son of Mary.  Angels descended supernaturally and sang at His birth. Everything about His life was within the unity of the natural and the supernatural.  His baptism by John the Baptist was attended by supernatural occurrences.  Once He had fasted forty days and forty nights, a natural experience, He returned to His ministry with supernatural powers.

His first miracle was a supernatural moment in a natural setting.  It was at a wedding celebration in Cana of Galilee.  Jesus and His mother had been invited and the wedding was progressing beautifully until the wine ran out.  The mother of Jesus suggested to Him to solve the problem, but He seemed reluctant.  She simply said to the servants, “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” (John 2:5)  Waterpots purified for the sacred time of this wedding were available and He said to the servants, “Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.”  (John 2:7-8)

The miracle was explosive and caused those present to see that this Man was not ordinary.  The writer John stated, “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.” (John 2:11)  The same thing will happen in every circumstance where a genuine miracle occurs.  A Biblical miracle always reveals His glory.  No wonder Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:32)  God’s church has become a human institution void of supernatural power and we are producing religion instead of supernatural Christianity.  The life of Christ was characterized by supernatural phenomena.  He was naturally supernatural.

Mark 8

19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

Supernatural Conversions

The desperate need in the Master’s church is supernatural redemption.  When a radical sinner becomes a radical saint, everybody stops and listens.  Nicky Cruz, born-again on the streets of New York, made the name of David Wilkerson a household name in America.  Almost every time a noted sinner becomes a noted believer, we make a celebrity out of him.  People read the books of such conversions and marvel as though it’s a strange event and then go back to the same old sterile life of the mundane.  When we have genuine revival, the transformed Christian will cease to be a marvel and will instead be the normal.

A Born-again persons have been radically transformed.  They are absolutely resurrected to a brand new life.  Sin’s power has been broken and holiness is the new lifestyle.  They are new creatures.  Apostle Paul spoke so powerfully of this change.  “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.  For he that is dead is freed from sin.”  (Romans 6:1-7)  What supernatural language!

Let’s note every aspect of this quote to see the supernatural expressions.  First, He said, “How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Sin is an incredible power that makes a slave out of every person where it reigns.  Sinners are mastered by sin and its captivating bondage.  Sinners do not just walk away from sin because of the sin nature that rules in a sinner’s life.  Drug addicts and alcoholics are pronounced incurable by the world and told how to try to control their addictions.  But, the Word of God declared a supernatural redemption where the soul is “dead to sin.”  The power of sin is broken when a person is truly saved.

Then He said, “We are baptized into His death.”  Notice He said “into” not “unto.”  Biblical redemption takes the repentant and surrendered sinner and translates him “into” the very death of Jesus Christ.  There is a supernatural act of the Holy Spirit by the Word and the blood that makes us joined “into” Him in the resurrected Son of God.  Just as He walked out of that tomb of physical death a transformed person, we walk out of the tomb of spiritual death.  It’s nothing less than supernatural.  The newborn soul has joined with Christ and moved from the grave to the resurrection.  The Scripture actually says that, “We shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection.”

“Our old man is crucified.”  That sin bound person has been put to a genuine spiritual death concerning the nature of sin.  That nature is now dead.  It cannot control that transformed believer while they live in Christ.  Can that nature of sin resurrect?  Of course, it can.  It can resurrect if the source of that death, which is Jesus Christ, is not our constant joy and delight.

John 12

35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

Supernatural Living

Our God is “naturally supernatural.”  Miracles should never become the extraordinary in the church.  The world system of health and healing is horribly flawed.  Most medicines are filled with additives that have horrible side effects.  Often the doctor must say to the patient, “We’ll try this medicine a few days and if it does not work, we’ll try something else.”  There are many wonderful persons, who are doctors or nurses, and they do their best with the tools at hand.  If you cannot believe God’s Word, they are your only option.  Remember, there was no disease before there was a devil, and there will be no disease when there is no longer a devil.  Decide for yourself where disease came from and then read the Word of Holy Scripture.

Isaiah said it and Peter confirmed it. Jesus is the Healer in the House of God.  “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”  (Isaiah 53:4-5)  I have always been amazed to hear the intellectuals and the liberals deny that this Scripture speaks of divine healing.  Apostle Peter wrote to confirm the words of Isaiah spoken by the Holy Ghost. “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (I Peter 2:24)  There is no way to deny that the Bible declares that healing is available at the feet of the cross.

The life and ministry of Jesus Christ left no doubt.  Tell the woman with the issue of blood that Jesus does not heal and she will still go her way shouting the joy of a transformed body.  She had suffered many things of many physicians.  Does that not sound familiar to you?  I am sick and tired of standing over some dear saint of God that has had so many chemically-based drugs until their body is a swollen mess.  Everything starts conflicting with each other and the body falls apart.  This woman had had enough and she came where Jesus was doing miracles.  “And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?  And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.  And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.  And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.”  (Luke 8:43-48)  Surely, nobody would deny that Jesus is “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8)  He has not changed, but we have.

Most churches do not pray for the sick and those that do are witnessing very little results.  Our God is ready to change all of that.  Radical Christianity is not a thing but is radical faith.  Supernatural miracles of healing were plentiful in the whole Scripture.  God healed all of the people of Israel that came out of Egypt unless they rebelled against Him.  Even their clothes and shoes did not wear out for forty years.

The Book of Acts does not have an ending.  The last words were written open-ended so we could live our own Book of Acts.  Here are Luke’s last words in this great Book of Scripture.  “And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.”  (Acts 28:30-31)

Since that date when Luke ended these words, history has produced many chapters written by great saints.  No, I do not believe in adding to the Word of God, but I do believe that the Word of God lives on in the lives of those who dare to believe in truth.  Cancer is nothing but a physical malady, a spirit of infirmity.  The power of His stripes can master this dark destruction the moment you dare to turn wholly to Him.  The same is true of every disease.

Conclusion

Supernatural living is the only way to describe Apostle Peter, Apostle Paul, and the rest of the New Testament saints.  History is filled with the great saints of the church that have moved from religion to a supernatural faith.  Miracles are natural to God.  You must let them become natural to you.  Remember, the supernatural is nothing but the natural in the language of God.
