Stud Stanton Back In The Bronx

If you have ever experienced an injury that kept you from doing something you love then you can relate to Giancarlo Stanton.  Hearing him talk about his long road to recovery before last night’s game really got to me.  I feel for the guy who loves to play baseball.  And now after an extended rehab and recovery, he’s back and happy to be back where he belongs with this incredible Yankee team battling for first in the East.

“I will play however I’m needed,” a humble and grateful Stanton said in a pre-game interview at the Stadium last night.  One injury led to another for Stanton, which was more than frustrating for him. He went from a torn bicep which aggravated his shoulder due to a previous injury to a fluke hit by a pitch off his left knee in an extended spring training game, which then led to a calf injury. What appeared to be a 10-day stint to the IL turned into more than 10-weeks.  The poor guy hasn’t been with his team since March 31st.

“I’m just glad that’s over with and I can move forward from that. That wasn’t a fun time,” said the Yankee outfielder according to YES.   “It’s been a long time. Feels longer than it has been for me,” Stanton said Tuesday afternoon. “Excited to be here. The boys have been fun to watch while I’ve been gone. It’s going to be good to file in and battle with them,”CBS Sports.

Stanton was greeted with applause from fans and some even rose to their feet for his first at bat after 68-days on the IL. Although he popped up to the catcher and struck out in his second and third plate appearances, he’s healthy and ready for many more games this season.

“We have a lot of dynamic players and hitters, and certainly Giancarlo is one of those. Hopefully the length we have in the lineup makes it difficult on the opposing team and opposing pitcher … The more we can grind out at-bats against teams and hopefully that pays dividends for us,” said Aaron Boone as reported CBS Sports.

Love him or hate him, Giancarlo Stanton is back in the Bronx, looking to contribute to this already successful team as they make their way through the 2019 season and into hopefully an amazingly successful post season.  Stay patient my friends!  Aaron Judge joins the squad later this week!
