Yuletide 2018 Begins

Tess and I went out and ran some errands, including buying a medium-small yule tree and bringing it home. She found a U-cut place only a few miles from where we live and it was half off what the same thing would cost at a typical tree lot (I know, we checked!) We found the perfect little thing, and so that is this year’s sacrificial tree.

(I don’t feel guilty since I have several saplings in the back area that are getting pampered or moved around to expand our own little forest. And, I’ve done live trees that are re-planted for many years. However, I can’t carry those pots and I don’t have a husband to do it for me, so…)

Here it is! I got it all set up in the bay window of our keeping area next to the kitchen.

My theme is red and gold with red bows. The red bow thing I do every year now. It started as a family thing during my childhood. We moved a lot and sometimes were too poor to get a tree until the last day (they give them away free then) and our stuff was packed, or we knew we were moving again. So we decorated the trees with red bows and candy canes. When I found a big red bow tree topper, I snatched it up, and it’s been my tree topper for years now.

Cat is buying a 9 foot tall artificial tree for the front parlor, but I wanted a living one (for now… mwah-ha-ha!) for my own area. I also have string lights to put up around the place, which will be nice!
