IFS: Check-In with the Bull, Crisis Boss

I first met The Bull, an emergency aspect dedicated to survival, in a dream not too long ago.

I asked him to not scream at the immature aspects quite so much, and to instead practice a game called “freeze” where they still shut up so he can get stuff done, but no one is attacked. He agreed.

Now I want to see where he’s at!

Self: Hey, Bull! How’s it going? *this time I imagine us sitting down at a cafe to talk*

Bull: Hey, there yourself. Nice to see you again.

Self: Okay– so, have you followed thru with the idea of playing games with other aspects to teach them to be quiet and let you do your job without you yelling at them?

Bull: Yeah, some. I really haven’t had too many opportunities to test that, though. Which is a good thing, really.

Self: Yeah, we’ve been pretty free of actual crisis for a while lately.

Bull: But I have been explaining myself better. “This is my job, and I need you to be still and quiet when I take over,” that kind of thing.

Self: Huh. How is that working, do you think?

Bull: Everyone seems to be listening. I’m not getting push-back on it. Which is nice.

Self: *nodding* Good, good…

Bull: I’ve absorbed your message though- that I don’t need to bark at the other aspects quite so much. I can just remind them that I’m here to help, and distractions could be deadly. It seems to work.

Self: That’s great news! It seems like a lot of my meetings with aspects have resulted in fast changes.

Bull: Well, to be fair, my job is limited in scope. Crucial, but not complicated.

Self: True. But still–! I’m pleased.

Bull: Glad to be of help. Anything else you want?

Self: I don’t think so…  Just- keep up the good work!

Bull: Will do! *takes a sip from his coffee*

END SESSION

Wow. That was quick! But he’s right– he doesn’t exactly have a lot to do. Just get to work when the shit hits the fan. The only real issue was his being too harshly negative towards other aspects as a part of his job. Solve that, and things are good.
