"Night Sky" App Handy for Magickal Pursuits!

I tried out a night sky app years ago when I still lived with the guys, and I thought it was pretty nifty, but when it needed updating– it was on their account and I had to delete it.

I finally downloaded it to the Ipad I own now (thanks to Sharn) and it’s definitely improved! I’m even thinking I should go ahead and get the paid version (which is only $10 a year.)

Knowing where to find stars, the moon, planets and such are important for many magickal workings, and in addition, I’m developing my own Star Signs for my new Tradition. I want to align the right constellations up with the time of year it’s most prominent, etc. Beyond that, being a good pagan I think means learning about and being in touch with the natural universe, both terrestrial and cosmic. How can you respect and admire something that is an “other” somewhere out there? Ignorance breeds disrespect!

In addition, I intend to have people learn the names of local native trees, plants, and animals as well as some basic weather science for the region for Trad lessons. It’s all a part of worship-as-wisdom thing I think works really well alongside the practice of magick (or astral energy work.)

We used the app during the Dark moon Uncrossing magick on Monday night, and, as it allows one to see “through” the planet below our feet, we could see the moon was occluding the sun in a partial lunar eclipse in the southern hemisphere at the same time as we did our thing. Though unseen on our side of the world, the energy was perfect for breaking a curse! How handy is THAT?
