As you probably read here recently I use the Arcteryx  MARPAT Assault Pack as my go-to bag.

Actually, I have two… one for each vehicle.

These bags are what I look for in a pack:  easy to use, MOLLE compatible, super durable, and simple.  And by that I mean there aren’t twelve different pouches or other cubby holes in this pack.

There’s the main storage area and there’s a smaller storage pouch on the front of the pack.  That’s it.

The buckles are solid and the carry straps are comfortable to wear.  It only takes a few minutes to configure it the way you want it to carry it.

The biggest problem I found is that the MOLLE straps make it so easy to strap stuff on the outside of the pack that you can wind up buying all kinds of things to go on it.  Luckily I own two of these packs, so I can get it out of my system without looking totally crazy!

What makes this pack so awesome?  The first thing I like is that it’s configurable to whatever you like.  One of my packs has a first-aid kit, canteen and cup, and a larger bag that I store freeze dried food in, all attached to the outside of the pack using MOLLE.  The inside of the pack carries a wool blanket, poncho, and a WP bag that carries the other gear that makes up my kit. It’s small enough to carry anywhere, but big enough to pack enough gear for a minimal bug-out.  In the past I’ve tried many different smaller packs and they’ve always lacked something that left me disappointed up until now.

These bags are MILSURP and are in fair shape.  If you do order one you’ll probably want to clean it after you get it, but it’s worth it.
