Apathy On Amnesty & Why Guns Are Next

As usual, your mainstream media continues to miss it.  News came out this week that a “clean” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) bill was coming, and a government shutdown would likely be averted.  The tone of the media coverage was a bi-partisan Kumbaya moment where the radical right was reined in and once again before taking us to the brink of another government shutdown.  What was missed from the media reports was any discussion of the clear dereliction of duty by Republican leadership that this “deal” represents.

Don’t Be a Bruce

The story behind the story is yet another example of Mitch McConnell and the establishment Republicans putting the party of Reagan on the same path as Bruce Jenner.  After consistently assuaging conservatives that they would fund DHS through February and live to fight the amnesty battle another day, establishment Republicans have yet again embraced style over substance.  Instead of upholding their constitutional duty to manage one entire branch of government, they have agreed to tacitly endorse Obama’s executive amnesty.  Their only requirement was that they could take a symbolic vote as a standalone to provide political cover and allow them to say they “voted against it”.

And there you have example #132 of how the Republican party has become the Washington Generals of politics.  Barry is hucking up half-courters and dribbling circles around them and they are content to cash checks and catch bucket after bucket of water in the face.  And guess what?  YOU DON’T CARE.  But you should, because guns are next.

Not Convinced?

Consider the magic recipe below.  All the ingredients are there for an assault on the second amendment.  Not in one large frontal attack that can easily be defended, but via hundreds of executive actions that are already being lined up like fire ants waiting to attack your honey coated trigger finger. Consider these five points…

1. Obama Hates Guns… and Possibly America – Obama’s disdain for gun rights is well-documented, and this is all on the record.  We know his real feelings are miles past those that he chooses to share in public.   The will to act is there.

2. Rarely Has A President Been More Emboldened  – What is there about the current climate would give him pause to act?  He’s gotten everything he’s asked for and more.  You feed a stray dog and it will keep coming back for more.  Politicians are worse than stray dogs, they simply can’t help themselves and Barry will soon be humping the leg of the NRA.

3.  Executive Action Has Few Limits - Republicans approach to the president’s lawlessness has been to abdicate their duty to the judicial branch.  The new modus operandi is to sue the president in Federal Court and hang our hat on a lawyer’s ability to argue our case better than their lawyer.  Maybe that strategy would be viable if the courts weren’t so rife with activist judges just dying to reinvent the constitution, or re-write laws on the fly to help a cause.  The courts rarely provide relief, what they do give us are delays (that help Obama), stays (that help Obama) and judicial activism (that helps Obama).

4. He’s Proven He Doesn’t Care About His Near-term Legacy - A lame duck president who ignores constitutional limits and doesn’t really care if his party’s successor (Hillary) ever gets elected is a dangerous thing.  Obama wants to fundamentally re-make America in the image of Europe or worse Chicago, if he has to take some PR lumps in the near-term he is fine with that.  This president thinks our system is unfair and flawed and the means justify the ends to fix it.   Polls and public opinion be damned.

5. The Other Two Branches Of Government Are Asleep At The Wheel – The Supreme Court loves to dropkick us in the pants; they will be of no help when the regs fly.  The Republican-controlled congress doesn’t share our values, opting to raise money, power and self-interest above all else.  That leaves Democrats in congress as the last port in a storm to protect our rights.  While gun advocacy can be a bi-partisan issue, challenging a sitting president of your own party is political suicide.  This means that even sympathetic Democrats won’t help and executive orders are essentially (and ironically) bullet proof.

The bottom line is that Republicans don’t want to govern.  They want to raise money off of our morally bankrupt Apologist-in-chief.  They know they more they put up symbolic resistance the better they can fund raise, increase their influence and keep the gravy train rolling.  They long to be seen as “fighting the good fight” despite tapping out before Michael Buffer even calls their name.  The executive orders on guns will flow, and likely soon.  When they do we need to hold our elected officials feet to the fire to quell them, or replace them with someone who will.
