Kickstart Case 6.5 Bone Stag Mid-Folding Hunter Knife Review

U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- I recently wrote a review on the Kickstart Case Dark Red Bone Mid-Folding Hunter. If you read that product review you know that I liked the knife, the only problem was that the assisted opening feature didn’t work as advertised. After running the last review, Case called me and asked me to return the knife for them to evaluate and asked me if I’d mind doing another review on the Kickstart Case 6.5 BoneStag Mid-Folding Hunter. I said sure, Case has a long-standing good name for themselves and deserved to have a chance to rectify the problem.

Many times, I think the public is quick to condemn but quick to demand that for their own personal transgressions that they be forgiven immediately without question. How many of the people reading this article right now produce some kind of product? I’ve always worked in huge production type of environments and if you have, then you know that in Plants employing over 1,500 employees that now and then no matter how consciousnesses that you are, you will make a mistake.

The first time I had to go out on a Claims Trip my old boss told me that sometimes a complaint could turn out to be a blessing. He further elaborated. He said if you admit your mistake and immediately make it right and correct the issue then the customer is going to appreciate your attention, humbleness and attitude and if handled correctly it can bring you closer than ever before. Over the last 30 yrs. I have since seen the wisdom of his advice. He was correct.

So with the above said, let’s re-evaluate the Kickstart Case 6.5 BoneStag Mid-Folding Hunter. We’ll start off with the history of the Kickstart knives.

The old school knife company W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. recently announced that it would begin making assisted opening knives featuring their patented Kickstart technology which was unveiled at the 2018 BLADE Show in Atlanta. Over the years I’ve tested a lot of Case knives so I had to try one out. At first they are only offering seven models.

Case claims that the Kickstart feature assists in opening the knife by use of the thumb stud on the blade so it can be opened quickly and locked into place efficiently. The knives feature a polished clip blade with thumb stud, nickel silver bolsters and a belt clip so you can carry it with easy access. As stated above, initially there are seven models.

Case claims that by applying pressure to the thumb stud the blade will jump open. This is where I ran into trouble. On the first Kickstart knife that I tested-the Case Kickstart Dark Red Bone knife I couldn’t open it with one hand. But on my new knife, which is a Kickstart Case 6.5 BoneStag Mid-Folding Hunter it worked as advertised. I can easily open it with one hand.

The handle is called a jigged handle which to my knowledge can be made out of a variety of materials but is usually made out of the leg bones of a cow. A machine called a jig cuts the design in the handle to give the appearance of an antler. The handle is then dyed.

SUMMARY:

I like the thin design of the knife. For a mid-sized knife, it is comfortable to carry, especially since it has a pocket clip. It has an elegant old school look about it. The blade has a unique design but is functional for an everyday carry knife. And after retesting this knife I can wholeheartedly recommend it to you.

Last week Ammoland editor and co-owner Fredy Riehl and his daughter came out to Idaho on a fourwheeling trip (Yes, an article covering that trip is in the works and will soon be published) and I carried it on our trip to the high plains Owyhee desert country. As stated above, for this follow up trip they sent me the Kickstart Case 6.5 BoneStag Mid-Folding Hunter. It is the exact same knife as the first one that I tested except for the handle. MSRP is $121.99.
