Pro-Gun Bills Headed To Embattled Virginia Governor’s Desk

Virginia – -(AmmoLand.com)- Three pro-gun bills are headed to the embattled Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s desk. As well, there are also two pro-gun bills and one anti-gun bill to be heard in Militia, Police, and Public Safety Subcommittee #1 on Thursday and one bill is still awaiting a hearing in the House Rules committee.

The hearing on the three bills in Militia, Police, and Public Safety Subcommittee #1 is being held Thursday at 4 pm at:

General Assembly Building (Pocahontas Building at 10th and Main in Richmond)
400-B Subcommittee Room (4th Floor)

Pro-Gun Bills That Have Passed Both The House And Senate And Are Headed To The Governor’s Desk

HB 1656, Delegate Cole, allows religious and private schools to have armed school security officers, passed the Senate by a 34 to 6 vote. Who didn’t think private schools should have the option of armed security? Delegates Ayala, Carroll Foy, Carter, Delaney, Gooditis, Guzman, Herring, Jones, J.C., Kory, Krizek, Lopez, Plum, Price, Simon, Torian, and Watts. Senators Deeds, Locke, Lucas, McClellan, Spruill, and Surovell.

HB 2253, Delegate Pogge, requires the Virginia State Police to issue non-resident CHPs within 90 days of receipt of the application. Party-line vote. So all the Democrats in both the House and the Senate think it is alright for the State Police to take as long as they want in issuing non-resident CHPs? Perhaps the Democrats would also like to have to wait six-months to get their driver’s licenses and their tax refunds?

HB 2548, Delegate Rush, ensures that the information on a person whose gun-rights have been restored is made available to officers in the field 24/7 to avoid false arrests. Passed the Senate 40 to 0.

Pro-Gun Bills To Be Heard Thursday In Militia, Police, And Public Safety Subcommittee #1

SB 1012, Senator Chase, allows ON DUTY fire and EMS personnel to carry everywhere they go.

SB 1179, Senator Stuart, allows military personnel domiciled in Virginia, but stationed in another state, to apply for a resident CHP at the same Circuit Court Clerk’s office as they would use if they had not left Virginia.

Anti-Gun Bill To Be Heard Thursday In Militia, Police, And Public Safety Subcommittee #1

SB 1321, Senator Hanger, requires firearms or ammunition in a licensed family day home to be stored in a locked container during hours of operation. It originally allowed the firearm to be lawfully carried on an individual’s person but has now been modified to be an outright ban.

BILL AWAITING A HEARING IN THE HOUSE RULES COMMITTEE

SB 1024, repeals the code section with the “good and sufficient reason” requirement to carry in a place of worship during a meeting or service. This repeal puts all churches in charge of their own security, without interference from the state.
