Happy Memorial Day!

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN who salutes the Flag.
It is the VETERAN who serves under the Flag.

I met one of our aging warriors outside of Big Boy’s this
week as he was collecting for the VFW. He was all by himself in the midday heat doing his best to help his comrades in arms. I asked him where he had seen service. He replied modestly that he had flown P38 fighters in the Pacific in WWII!

Doing the math, I realized that this gentle, unassuming, dedicated
hero must be close to 90 years old. He had already risked all to defend us decades ago but his devotion to his country and his comrades had not faded in all these years.

On this day of honor and remembrance, let us send thanks
and prayers to this enduring soldier and to all our brave defenders of the flag—past and present. Let us remember and pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate price at places like Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and Yorktown or at Omaha Beach, Bastogne, or Iwo Jima.

May the memories of such commitment and valor give us the
strength to save our country. We have five short months to vanquish our domestic enemies who are working feverously to destroy our nation. Let us remember that the discomfort that we feel when knocking on a neighbor’s door or the pain we suffer when we are smeared, ridiculed, or ostracized for taking a stand or the time or money we give up to advance our cause is a pittance compare to what those who have come before us have sacrificed to keep us free.

Now, it is our time. May the remembrance of the magnificent patriots who have given so much inspire us to do all we can in the coming months to save our beloved USA.

the USA.
