Rain, Snow Thunderstorms Coming

The entire region will get a mixture of rain, snow, wind, and thunderstorms … but depending where you are is what you will get so read on and see the rain/snow charts within the article below.

It’s been mild for the Pacific Northwest, however a storm system is coming into the Oregon Coast this evening into the night, which will spread precipitation across the state, up into Washington, and east through Idaho.

Before the front hits, thunderstorm forecast models here at NationalWeatherForce.com shows that a couple areas across Oregon will have a chance for them.  The first area is in the Willamette Valley regions, including Portland southward and west to the Oregon Coast as the front moves in.  Another area will be ahead of the front, where stronger instability is present across Northeast OR and into the Western ID areas, centering what could be the Pendleton, OR areas.  This zone has a chance at larger hail with the stronger thunderstorms.
As the front hits, we’re expecting isolated thunderstorms along it across Western OR, but at the time it looks like Southwest OR will have lower cloud tops, thus not a good chance if any for lightning.  Gusty winds will be likely across Western OR with 45 mph or higher being likely near the coastal zones and 30+ for parts of the Willamette Valley this evening into tonight with the surface low making landfall in Northwest Oregon.  Gusty winds will spread across the Desert zones of the state as well … and these winds will not hit Seattle.

Heavy rainfall is likely for Western Oregon with widespread 1-2″ being likely over a short period of time some areas in Southwest OR and near the Western slopes of the Cascade Range seeing 2-4″ of rainfall.  The map below tells it all … which includes the entire Willamette Valley.  If you’re in WA/OR/ID check that map out.

Snowfall will be heavy across the Cascade Range with Oregon’s range seeing well over 10-15″ and some spots over 15-20″ … with snowfall spreading east across the desert of the state.  There are indications that snowfall will be possible for the Spokane, WA regions through tomorrow so if in those areas expect it.
