Here are two reports on the trial proceedings for Friday, Oct 14, 2016 in Portland, Oregon…US Federal Government vs. We the People, AKA Bundy et all.

In the first video, John Lamb gives a lunch break and an after court report. There is also a clip recorded by Jenn Cannon of the Lamb family singing on the steps of the Federal Courthouse. John and Rebekah Lamb have 11 children and their farm is in Montana.  John has been standing in Portland since Sept. 9 and has not been home since. Supporters got together and assisted the family; Rebekah drove the youngest 7 children to Portland and arrived Thursday; leaving the oldest 4 back at the farm to take care of things there.  I cannot help but be reminded of the Sharp family going to the refuge. That family is still suffering, please keep them in your prayers.

There is still an ongoing tug of war between the Government and the Defense over the so far not named FBI informants planted at the refuge. Two of the stated 15 have been identified, Mark McConnell and Teri Linnell; the Defense has moved for the identification of the other 13 informants. Judge Anna Brown said she is going to look over the related 130 documents this weekend to determine whether or not to allow the release of the names of the informants. It’s looking like the FBI and US Government were doing a lot more “conspiring” than the “occupiers” at the refuge.

The first witness was via testimony over the phone by FBI Agent David Blanchard regarding remarks made by Neil Wampler, who was a cook at the refuge, to Blanchard the day after his arrest.  Neil’s lawyer, Lisa Maxfield, said Neil couldn’t resist the temptation to “proselytize” and had recommended that Agent Blanchard check out some 7 You Tube videos so that he could get “a clue to our thinking.” 

Next, David Fry, the last person to stand at Camp Finicum, took the stand. David Fry got to have his day in court. Many people cautioned him and his attorneys about allowing him to take the stand for his own protection.  No one wanted to see David hurt anymore than he already has been; the opportunity for the Feds to prod David on the stand to trigger him and get a reaction was something supporters feared the Feds would attempt to exploit. They are still keeping Fry in solitary confinement in the Injustice Center.

Here’s a little personal background about David.  He grew up in Ohio as the son of a dentist.  He worked in his father’s practice making appointments, doing maintenance, etc., for the last several years. He has never been arrested, does not own any guns, and the trip to the refuge was the first protest in which he has ever participated. He drove over 2000 miles to the refuge.  When he got to Burns, he stopped to get supplies to contribute, including 10 toothbrushes.

The most surprising revelation for many people was that David Fry was supposed to be in the truck with LaVoy Finicum for the trip to John Day, where LaVoy was killed in an illegal roadblock. LaVoy had sent him a text to join him in the truck for the trip. David was assisting Lee Rice, another Defense witness, with computer issues and missed LaVoy’s text.  By the time he read it, it was too late; Victoria Sharp took his seat in the truck.  David said on the stand that he believed that if he had seen the text, the bullet that struck Ryan Bundy would have hit him.

David also talked about how he had wanted to be able to express his concerns about issues like the radiation from the Fukushima reactors, however all the media seemed interested in was “ridiculing” him.  David made the observation, “The media is supposed to be the bulldog for the people, instead, they are the lapdog of the government.”  When asked why he told the FBI to yell “Halleluyah!” before he would come out and turn himself in, he told the court that he knew he was about to walk into the midst of evil and if he could hear them say “Halleluyah!”, it would make them seem a little less evil. “Halleluyah!” has become the supporters chant to David when they march around the jail. as well as in posts about him.

The second video contains two reports from Kelli Stewart.  The first half of the video covers the testimony of David Fry, details of which also can be found in my previous report. Suffice it to say, David took a great risk taking the stand in his own defense. I think he did a great job getting his experience and reasons for his actions to the jury, despite the Prosecution’s efforts.

Kelli talks about some of the other witnesses, including a member of the Puckett family whose fence was cut adjoining the refuge property. Also the hunt for the refuge worker that was on the scene, and the wait for Judge Anna Brown to review the 130 redacted documents related to FBI informants to determine if she will allow those informants to be identified for the defense.

Court will continue on Monday with Prosecution rebuttals, including Harney County Judge Steven Grasty. When the Defense rests, closing arguments from the Prosecution and all 7 Defendants will take place. Then, the jury will receive their instructions and begin deliberation.
