Sophia Stewart: "The Matrix" Lawsuit - Conspiracy Or Hoax?
HERE The story goes that in 1986 African-American female writer Sophia Stewart submitted a manuscript titled, THE THIRD EYE, to a science fiction comic book contest that was sponsored by the Wachowski Brothers from an ad that was placed in a national magazine. She never heard from them and her manuscript was never returned. Years later, in 1999, when the first MATRIX film was released Stewart recognized that her work had been appropriated by the Wachowski Brothers and she filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement in 2003 against them, Warner Bros., Joel Silver, Village Roadshow Entertainment, James Cameron, Gale Ann Hurd and THE TERMINATOR franchise. Now every three or four years after she had filed the lawsuit contradictory stories are circulated on the internet about her either having won the lawsuit (in 2004) or that the lawsuit had been dismissed (in 2005). And just as recently as December 10th 2011, other websites including www.brandnewz.com have announced that Miss. Stewart has won a multi-billion dollar settlement for copyright infringement against the MATRIX franchise and THE TERMINATOR franchise. She allegedly won her lawsuit based on the fact that,”according to court documentation, an FBI investigation discovered that more than thirty minutes had been edited from the original [Matrix] film, in an attempt to avoid penalties for copyright infringement.” (1)

d not know anything became of the script until 1999 when I went to the movies to see The Matrix. When I saw it with my friend Seagram, I was astonished, just blown away.
Sophia Stewart: First these two franchises are owned by the same people or movie house. Ok, The Terminator and The Matrix are actually “one book”. That’s my “Third Eye” manuscript. It’s nine chapters but it’s all from the same source (no pun intended) Terminator starts from the front of my book to the back. Matrix starts from the back of my book and works its way to the front. They are moving in two opposite directions. My book was separated into two. “The Third Eye” is an epic, my book spans three time frames the past, the present and the future. Those films do the same thing. The child in the first Terminator who is born to the pregnant lady (Sarrah Connor) grows up to be the same as the grown man character in the Matrix called Neo, it’s that chosen one, savior concept. Matrix starts in the future, when technology has taken over. The Terminator was sent to kill the child who was prophesized to destroy the machines. That intersects directly with Neo as being the one prophesized to bring the machine reign to an end. One critic who is unaware of my lawsuit called the movies cousins but they are actually one in the same in the original.

There are some websites spreading incorrect information about Sophia Stewart’s story and her judgement. Here is official court docs. proving Sophia Stewart has won a judgement for her work.
Actually, you are quite wrong. That document is not a judgement, it is an application for default judgement. In addition, the parties being sued appear to have nothing to do with the movie, they appear to be her lawyers. As I recall, Sophia Stewart sued her lawyers after the fact, stating that they misrepresented her and denied her due process, either through incompetence or conspiracy. I have no idea how that turned out.
Frankly, when I first heard the story I believed it. As I investigated though, I found the claims more and more dubious and Sophia Stewart now seems to me to be a crackpot. I read through the summary of her original manuscript, and I can see no similarities any more than Star Wars can be compared to The Bible. Really.
