You Can't Handle The Truth

We’ve all heard “The truth shall make you free”, but you
never thought “free” meant losing a friend. 

It’s amazing how friends ask for advice, but really don’t want
it.  In actuality they want you to agree
with them and when you don’t, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE… 

You know like your girlfriend you’ve known for years.  She asked what you thought about her man and now
she’s NO LONGER speaking to you, and neither is he.  She asked for the truth, you gave it to her
and it made her FREE of you… You see, she knew her man was cheating, but she
didn’t want you to tell her.  She wanted
the beautiful, but you gave her the truth.  
She told him and he told her “You know your girl is messy, she’s been
trying to holla at me behind your back all along.” SMH

Then there’s that friend whose breath is funkier than a “camel
fart” on a hot summer day…  They asked
for the truth, you give it to them and it made him/her FREE of you, and your
nose FREE of them…  You see, they already
knew they had halitosis because not only did their ex tell them as they were
leaving, but so did their dentist.     You
see they wanted the “beautiful”, you know like “Man, I don’t know why these
women won’t commit”; “Girl, my window is rolled down because it’s hot in here
(SN: It’s 20 degrees outside and their knees are shaking from the chill)”… SMH

But this is the final and most fascinating one of them all…  You know that friend who’s mad because her
husband told her she was picking up weight. 
Now let’s take into consideration she’s given birth to 3 children ages
10, 13, and 18.   Her clothes have shrunk in the washer and she suffers
from her college basketball injury that left her unable to get on the treadmill,
sidewalk, elliptical, jump rope, or track at the school   Now how
weight got into this is a mystery, all she asked was “Honey, how does my butt
look in these jeans?”  Technically she
didn’t ask him if she’s picked up weight, but he gave her the truth anyways…    You
see she wanted the “beautiful”, you know like “Babe, you’re phiner than the day
I met you (Fingers crossed behind his back)”

The truth is… The truth hurts and it’s not always easy to
digest it….  Most people say they can
handle it, but really can’t.  The “beautiful”,
what makes them feel good, and the opposite of what they already know is what
they truly want to hear.  Some people
have found comfort in the darkness of “denial”, and honestly it’s not always our
job to bring them into the light.  So if
you don’t want to lose a friend, the next time you’re asked for advice, respond
with “Do you want the truth or something beautiful?”
