Ice cold fundraising on the rocks while 'Black America' is getting HOT!

The world of social media is abuzz this week with ice, buckets, cold water, guns, tankers and black men dying in the street. ‘Yes’ I know it is a gruesome description but the polarization between hot and cold is evident. Those partaking in the ice bucket challenge for ALS fundraising and awareness are promoting participants to drench themselves in ice cold water for ‘a good cause’. Every one from former presidents, movie celebrities and everyday people get wet in water as they spout words of challenges to their family, friends and co-workers.

Meanwhile across town or state lines things are heating up between law enforcement and the civilians. Places like Missouri are on fire with protests, house arrests and smoking guns. All things relative how can I not look at the two ends of the spectrum as they grace my computer screen. Each cause is crying for aid one is being heard and the other is spurned.

COLD

Ice bucket Challenge: Counting from July 29th, 2014 – August 21th, 2014 the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ALS nonprofit is reported to have generated 41.8 million dollars from more than 739,000 new donors. The disease of ALS is said to be 100% fatal as 5,600 people are diagnosed each year and 5,000 are estimated to die from the dis-ease yearly.

On August 9th, 2014 Micheal Brown yet another ‘Black’ male was slain in the streets of Ferguson, Missouri. According to a recent study Operation Ghetto Storm 313 ‘Black’ males died in 2012 in cases similar to Micheal Brown’s. A few days later in a city not far away Kajieme Powell of St. Louis, Missouri was also slain in the streets as the entire episode was caught on a cell phone camera. Couple this with 1,876 ‘Black’ babies being aborted each day. One would say that between slain youth and aborted babies these two issues represent 100% fatality rate for the ‘Black’ community.

Is a #tomatojuice challenge to graphic of a depiction to signify the blood that is violently being shed on a daily basis?

Mixed together in a community pot of soul renching news we see two groups in need. The lost of life is a lost across the board and if there can be this much out cry for 5000 people who lose their life due to ALS yearly, what about the hundreds of thousands who lose, risk and live in a state that denies them the very goal that this Ice bucket desires to achieve. Lets all read over a part of the goal of ALS “The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.”

Is there a cure for the current state of ‘Black’ people? Is the fact that millions have died and even denied the right to live above poverty lines some thing to challenge society about? Is the destruction of a people a ligetimate cause that would warrant challenges, fundraisers and extensive research and solution to help build hope and enhance the quality of life for this ‘black’ nation not of people nordesired?
