Black bobsled battle for Olympic Gold

Two women, Elana Meyers Taylor, the No. 1 bobsled driver in the world, from Douglasville, Georgia, with Lauren Gibbs of Los Angeles as her brakeman, are expected to win the Olympic gold medal at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games, the first bobsled gold for the USA in 16 years.

Aja Evans from Chicago, Illinois, is brakeman for another team, with Brianua Jones ready for any replacement duties. Americans of African descent are well represented in this very high tech sport. BMW of North America is a big sponsor of USA Bobsled & Skeleton Association for good reason, the “beamer” is built for precision and speed, attributes necessary for both car and sled.

Elana will become the first woman to represent the USA in three Olympics in the sport. Aja is both an Olympic and world bronze medalist.

Now here comes the competition from … AFRICA! Nigeria, to be exact, to challenge the Americans. Like the Jamaican men’s four-man bobsled team, the Nigerian women plan on beating the Americans.

The Nigerian women’s bobsled team is less than two years old. In fact, the Jamaican team did beat the American four-man bobsled team, finishing 12th over the American Team. Jamaica was aided by the German team that loaned them their sled after the German team received a new one from Germany. The Jamaican team had crashed their one and only sled.

The Nigerian two-women bobsled team should not have financial problems, as one of their backers is VISA.

To be sure the Americans, Nigerians and Germans are not the only ones in the race. This makes for some interesting and exciting race viewing on TV between the old world and new world in the battle of the bobsled. May the best women win.
