The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded Pfizer more than $1.24 billion in contracts for adult and pediatric COVID-19 vaccines for fiscal years 2026 and 2027, according to federal procurement records published in June 2026. 

The awards, issued on June 1, 2026, through the CDC Office of Acquisition Services, are split into two main contracts:

• A pediatric vaccine contract valued at $735,720,598. 

• An adult vaccine contract valued at $505,272,000.

Critics and various media outlets have highlighted the substantial funding for pediatric doses despite CDC data showing low public demand, with only 9.7% of children and 17% of adults reported as up-to-date with the latest COVID-19 shots.  The contracts have sparked debate regarding vaccine safety, mRNA technology, and the legal authority to spend these funds while the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) faces legal challenges and potential paralysis. As of June 2026, at least 28 states and Washington, D.C. have formally announced they will not follow the revised CDC immunization schedule, instead adhering to guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) or their own state health officers.  LAW SUITS
