INDIA HITS NEW RECORD LOW IN CORRUPTION
While india’s GDP and growth may be progressing however india’s corruption index is hitting all-time lows.
Is there a link to corruption and growth/prosperity???
Corruption and GDP Growth related?
Journal reports according to Transparency International’s corruption perception index, India scored 3.1 on a scale from zero to 10, where anything below five is bad news.
Last year, India scored 3.3. India ranked 95th in the list – lower than China, which scored 3.6 points and ranked 75th. A string of recent corruption scandals like alleged graft in the allocation of the 2G spectrum and organisation of Commonwealth Games last year in October may have worsened India’s image.
The Index, which is closely watched by investors, economists, and civil society campaigners, is based on expert assessments and data from 17 surveys from 13 independent institutions, covering issues such as access to information, bribery of public officials, kickbacks in public procurement, and the enforcement of anti-corruption laws. While critics note that measuring perceptions of corruption is not the same as measuring corruption itself, the latter is almost impossible to do – as the corrupt are usually keen to cover up their tracks, hard data on graft and bribery is notoriously difficult to come by.
Perhaps there is a link between corruption and growth/prosperity, provided india does not play-by-rules or sideline the rules of EQUAL-PLAYING-FIELD.
