US Deadly Drone Attacks Will Not Resume

An American drone attack has killed four Islamist militants in Pakistan in the first such assault since delinquent US air strikes bombed two dozen Pakistani troops in November, killing all of them.

Since September 2011, at least 60 people have died in 14 reported CIA drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal regions. The Obama administration has named only one of the dead, hailing the elimination of Janbaz Zadran, a top official in the Haqqani insurgent network, as a counterterrorism victory.

After the November strike, Pakistan closed its border with Afghanistan, cutting off vital Nato supply lines.

The strikes followed several tense weeks in the U.S.-Pakistan relationship, as the Obama administration publicly alleged direct ties between the Haqqani network and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency.
