Ina Calottaschwarz is a practitioner of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that started spreading in China 20 years ago. She’s from Germany, but today she’s in New York to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the practice.
Ina recalls her first experiences doing the Falun Gong exercises.

“It was unbelievable, goose-pimples all over my body. I’ve never felt those feelings of strength before.”
Other Falun Gong practitioners speak of similar experiences.
“Now I never have any worries, and I feel very light when I walk.”
And great changes in their lives.
“When friends see me, they see I have completely changed, my complexion is great and my spirits are up. So they say that this Falun Gong is so great.”
But today they are celebrating in America and not China, because since 1999 the Chinese Communist regime has carried out a systematic persecution against Falun Gong. This persecution has led to over 3000 deaths from torture.

“It’s a hard challenge for us, I would say, to keep clear in mind and to keep good thoughts while hearing this unbelievable cruelness which is happening in China.”

“In 2003 I was arrested and put into prison on a four year sentence, I spent four years in a women’s prison. After I was put in prison they carried out many forms of persecution, torturing me both mentally and physically.”

“At the end of this park behind me is the United Nations general assembly. On the 20th anniversary of the practice’s introduction and after 13 years of persecution in Mainland China, Falun Gong practitioners are showing their strength in numbers, showing the world they are still here.”

May 13th will mark 20 years since the first Falun Gong class was taught in China, while July 20th will mark a darker anniversary – that of the Chinese regime’s persecution of the practice. Falun Gong practitioners across the world are doing everything they can to put these key dates in the spotlight.
