BBC: Olympic Games Will Only Let You Watch If You Wear Corporate Clothing

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

What the fuck is this world coming to when people have brought tickets to attand the Olympic games only to be told later by the facist police state what they can and can not wear.

Security at the games come from Israel and most the people employed on the ground are immigrants so you can see that  David Cameron takes security very seriously.

London 2012: Coe defends enforcement of brand rules to ‘protect’ sponsors

Lord Coe said sponsors made a huge contribution to 2012 and sport in general

Lord Coe has defended 2012 Olympics branding rules, which he admitted could see spectators banned from wearing Pepsi T-shirts and other items.

Coca-Cola is a “global partner” of the games, said Lord Coe, and the huge sums it and other sponsors had invested had to be “protected”.

But he played down suggestions by the BBC’s Evan Davis that the ban might even extend to footwear.

Spectators would “probably” not be asked to remove non-Adidas trainers.

London 2012 hope to raise £2bn from Adidas and other UK sponsors

Critics have said the enforcement of branding rules at the Beijing Olympics was too heavy-handed and have called for a relaxation in the approach for the London Games, which begin in a week’s time.

One MP has called for British firms and other suppliers to be allowed to sell their beer in Olympic venues, arguing it would give a boost to the UK economy.

Presenter Evan Davis asked Lord Coe whether he could, for example, attend an Olympic event wearing a Pepsi t-shirt.

“No, you probably would not be walking in with a Pepsi T-shirt because Coca-Cola are our sponsors,” he replied, adding that Coca-Cola had invested millions of pounds both in the Games and grass-roots sport.

if I was going then I would smuggle in  Pepsi Coke (Now we know what all the security is need for) and a Shell Petrol T-Shirt and wave it from the roof tops and I can see as the public becomes aware of the problem they will let the facist corporations know just what people think of then.

These games cost the british public £23bn and the best they hope to get back is £2bn whilst the wating list for the NHS stands at 2.5 milion people ! Thats some democracy you have in the UK

Big business USA-style has certainly arrived at the London Olympics with major sponsors Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Visa.

Perhaps Lord Coe is now finding out just what it entails signing-up major global brands such as these.

In my opinion the reason why such organisations enter into sponsorship at major events such as these Olympics is to ensure that their competitors do not get a look-in. After all these brands are No.1 within their respective market sector.Do they really require the exposure as such strong practitioners of their specialities?

As Lord Coe has said on BBC Radio 4 ‘Today’ Programme Friday 20 July, the £600 million of revenue due to be received by the games from sponsorship agreements will provide a welcome boost to income and relieve the taxpayer from having to fund the whole of the games except for ticket amd media revenue.

However, why are 300 trading standards officers required across the Olympic venues? Is this to ‘police’ the advertising to ensure that the sponsors are the only brands to receive exposure during the 19 days?

Although the question asked of Lord Coe this morning about whether all those as ticket-holders to events will be required to remove clothing and apparel depicting alternatives to the sponsors, such a ‘Pepsi’ T-shirts and ‘Nike’ footwear, was made as a jovial question, he was really unable to provide a definitive answer to BBC Journalist Evan Davies.

Judging by the sheer professionalism displayed by these global giants with instantly recognised brands are they intimidating the organisers? We have seen the manner in which all names of those organisations not involved with the sponsorship programme have had their brand names covered with blank black tape or signage taken down at venues, to the extent that stadium names have been removed.

A pity that British companies such as G4S that are earning millions under the Olympic security contract do not display the sheer marketing know-how of the big American corporations.
