Recently there has been talk of the Israeli’s attacking Iran, or the US attacking Iran while Israel prosecutes a war with Hezbollah and Syria.  Added to this saber-rattling is what seems to be the endless vitriol spewed by Iran’s president, Mahomoud I’m-in-a-jihad.  I believe that Iran poses an existential threat to Israel and Dan Gordon, who came on the record in Watchers 3, and discussed this at length, also holds this position.  Iran seems to be chopping at the bit to attack Israel, so much so that The Ayatollah Khamenei recently stated that Iran should prepare for war and people should start gathering three months supply of food and water.  (Where have I heard that before?)

The Iranians have threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz if they are attacked, a strategic move that I blogged about months before the Iranians announced their intentions, then followed by actual naval exercises in preparation for carrying out their threat.   The Russians are countering US sanctions and the threat of invasion by announcing that an attack against Tehran is an attack on Moscow.  Strong words, and ones that should be heeded.

The saber-rattling continues unabated.  Over the weekend WND ran a story about the use of an EMP bomb, an Elctrro-Magnetic Pulse bomb that would be deployed over the US homeland.

Here’s a very possible scenario based on an Israeli EMP attack and if it occurs would end the Iranian threat in a heartbeat.

Israel has nuclear weapons.  They also have a delivery system for those weapons.  What if Israel were to deploy one nuclear weapon, launching it from the Persian Gulf and detonating it 200+ miles above Iran.  In other words, what if the Israeli’s use an EMP?   Iran would loose all of it’s infrastructure and in essence find themselves back in the 19th century before the industrial revolution.  Chaos would ensue in Iran and the Mullahs might loose their hold on the country, as communications would be non-existant.  Iran’s nuclear program would cease, their power-grid would be knocked out, telecommunications of every sort a thing of the past, and little or no nuclear fall-out.  In short the Iranian threat would be over in minutes with the deployment of one EMP.

In closing todays post:  My post is a scenario that may or may not happen.  However, it is a viable position for the Israeli’s to take, as it disables Iran quickly and without a long protracted war.  An EMP deployment on Iran would also send a strong message to other countries.  An EMP over Iran?  Nothing would surprise me at this point.
