Total Surveillance: NYPD Launches New All-Seeing ‘Domestic Awareness System’
Last year, 60 minutes did a horrifying report on the capabilities of New York City’s top secret spy center.
That segment led to revelation the spy center was actually being funded by and ran in cooperation with Wall Street banks.
Wall Street’s Secret Spy Center Run by NYPD
After 60 minutes aired a special on the NYPD’s artificial intelligence backed NYC spy system, reporters learned the center is in fact co-operated and owned by Wall Street’s biggest banks.Following that report, journalists noticed some things out of place in the story and started digging.
What they learned, is while the 60 minutes report focuses on the system being used to fight terrorism, the center security serves as a personal spy system for Wall Street’s largest banks.

February 6, 2012On September 25, 2011, just eight days after the Occupy Wall Street protests began in Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan, the much acclaimed CBS News program, 60 Minutes, aired a fawning look at the thousands of surveillance cameras affixed to buildings and lampposts throughout New York City. The cameras feed live images of people going about their everyday lives to a $150 million computer center equipped with artificial intelligence to integrate and analyze the daily habits of what are, for the most part, law-abiding Americans.
The thrust of the 60 Minutes program was the fine job of counter terrorism being done by the NYPD and its Commissioner, Raymond Kelly. It was a triumph in public relations for a police department about to go on an assault spree – pepper spraying and punching peaceful protestors; kicking, ramming and arresting journalists attempting to cover the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations.
On air, the reporter, Scott Pelley, said the surveillance center was “housed in a secret location,” as one would expect of a real counter terrorism program — as opposed to a program to simply quash dissent. Mr. Pelley also said the program was run by the NYPD. As it turns out, neither of those assertions were accurate.

While the revelations made by 60 minutes and the follow up investigation on the spy center about the mind-blowing technology used by the NYPD to track people across the city were shocking enough the police are now ratcheting up their pressure on the control grid.
Be sure to watch the 60 minutes clip above to grasp how powerful the system is and after you take comfort in the following report from RT about how they are going to take things up a notch.
Total Surveillance: NYPD Launches New All-Seeing ‘Domestic Awareness System’
RT – The New York Police Department already has thousands of cameras aimed all over the island of Manhattan, but this literal surveillance state is about to be brought up a notch. The NYPD is teaming up with Microsoft to track action across the city.
Later this week, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to come forth with more details about a new surveillance project the head of the NYPD hinted at last week. In conjunction with engineers at Microsoft, the NYPD will unleash an advanced “domestic awareness system” that will combine its already extensive city-wide surveillance system with law enforcement’s established databases in order to track the moves of suspected terrorists.
NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly first commented on the program over the weekend at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado, but those close to the project have failed to extrapolate much further other than on the basics. So far little is known about the Domain Awareness System, but an unearthed Public Security Privacy Guidelines memo dated back to 2009 details some of what is to be expected.
According to the memorandum, the Domain Awareness System is designed to implement “technology deployed in public spaces as part of the counterterrorism program” of the NYPD, and will work in tandem with the closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) already used by the force, as well as license plate readers “and other domain awareness devices, as appropriate.”
Currently there are reported no fewer than 3,000 CCTVs operated by the NYPD on just lower Manhattan
In the 2009 memo, the statement of purpose that outlines the need for the NYPD’s latest initiative says that the domain awareness system is designed to facilitate the observation of terrorist activity, aid in the detection and deterring of terrorist attacks, reduce incident response time and “create a common technological infrastructure to support the integration of new security technology.”
The statement continues to confirm that the system will be operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will not target persons “solely because of actual or perceived race, color, religion or creed,” which the memo insists is operating procedure for all NYPD activities. A recent scandal uncovered by the Associated Press has already revealed that the NYPD has been engaged in surveillance missions outside of their jurisdiction, however, going as far as New Orleans, New Jersey and abroad to stake out American Muslims, including college students. Both Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Kelly have defended this practice.
If that isn’t enough to give you comfort that we will be safe from the terrorists keep in mind that we are also deploying 30,000 plus NDAA spy drones which will be weaponized by the police and armed with missiles and be assisted by a nationwide grid of ground-based censors.
Those drones will include the winner of the Military’s upcoming drone war competition which will be fed into the Department Of Homeland Security’s artificial intelligence system, run through the systems that process Einstein and eventually through the NSA’s AI based Quantum Computer system.
Take those developments and throw them together with NYPD’s system and we are truly talking about an Orwellian nightmare of epic proportions, especially with legislation such as the NDAA which is already in effect and CISPA which will eventually be shoved into law one way or another.
