Assad’s ‘Chemical Weapons’ – Sexing up the Iraq War redux

I really have to hand it to the war mongers; while they certainly lack imagination, their pathological persistence seems to know no bounds.

The full details of Western imperial plan for the destruction of Syria is now becoming clear with the purported arrival of the USS Eisenhower off the Syrian coast. US patriot missiles have already been deployed on the Turkey/Syria border (along with hundreds of American and European troops to operate them), in preparation for Syrian government attempts to hit US bases and military sites in Turkey as a response to any NATO invasion. Of course, a ‘Syrian’ attack on these positions would provide the perfect pretext for NATO to get its hands dirty in Syria.

The claim that the US aircraft carrier, (loaded with US Marines) had not been officially confirmed, although records of the ship’s movements confirm that it transited the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean  Dec 1st-4th. That puts it very close to Syrian waters. In addition, on the pretext of potentially ‘evacuating’ US civilians from Israel during the recent Israeli bombardment of civilians in Gaza, three U.S. Navy amphibious warships, the USS Iwo Jima, the USS New York and the USS Gunston Hall, carrying 2,500 Marines, returned to the eastern Mediterranean in late November. At the time, a US official stressed that an evacuation “remains an extremely remote possibility and the Obama administration is not currently planning for one”, which makes sense, and suggests that these ships were sent to the Levant for some other reason.

The first step in the planned destruction of Syria involved the sowing of chaos within the country via CIA/MI6 trained, armed and funded terrorists, aka ‘al-qaeda’, who were tasked with indiscriminately killing Syrian civilians and  attempting to make it look like there was some kind of popular revolution against Assad, even though there wasn’t. Western intel agencies however have been relatively careful to ensure that the funding comes through US client states in the Middle East like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This allows for a thin veneer of implausible deniability to Western governments.

One notable example, among many, of the type of tactics used by these Western-backed terrorists was the May 2012 al-Houla massacre where over 100 children, women and men were murdered at close range. You’ll surely have heard from Western governments and media that the Assad government was to blame for the massacre in al-Houla, but the evidence points directly to the CIA’s foreign mercenaries in Syria.

This process of committing mass murder and sowing chaos in Syria began more than 18 months ago, and it seems that the Western warmongers have now decided that Syria is now ripe for NATO ‘humanitarian intervention’ to put an end to the ‘civil war’ that has been manufactured by Western governments. Naturally, this will involve the massacre of many more Syrian civilians with NATO missiles.

In Libya last year, NATO (aka the USA) attacked the Libyan army and people and killed 50,000 of them and justified it by claiming, falsely, that Gaddafi was “bombing his own people”. The same lie is now being used in Syria, except that US and British politicians are also claiming that Assad may use “chemical weapons against his own people”. You must understand that the average person in the street is meant to react to this ‘revelation’ with shock and horror (or ‘shock and awe’) and swallow the bullshit just like you did before the Iraq war.

What you are not meant to do is realise the inherent hypocrisy in a British government minister being horrified at the idea of anyone of using chemical weapons against civilians, because the British were the first to use chemical weapons against a civilian population when under General Allenby, they gassed the Turks in Sinai in 1917, and then the Iraqis in 1920. The contemptible Winston Churchill himself was a strong advocate of the use of poison gas against uncivilized tribes.1

In fact, the forces of ‘freedom and democracy’ seem unable to get their story straight over this phony ‘chemical weapons’ issue.

Hilary Clinton is claiming that the US is worried that Syria’s chemical weapon stockpile, which may or may not exist, might “fall into the wrong hands” after Assad is gone. Clinton speaks with such assuredness about Assad’s removal you’d think she had a hand in the effort to remove him herself… At the same time, the Brits, via the repugnant William Hague, are trying to convince everyone that Assad himself might use said weapons “on his own people”. So which is it? The answer is both.

The Brits are attempting to defame Assad to the world by making the ludicrous claim that he would commit political suicide by attacking his own people with chemical weapons, while the Americans are touting the back up line that, even if Assad doesn’t use the weapons against his own people, they’ll probably still need to invade to “secure” the weapons and prevent them from falling into the hands of the CIA’s mercenaries, or that they would be shipped to Lebanon and to Hizb’allah and therefore ‘threaten Israel’

Obviously, Western governments are making this shit up as they go along.

For it’s part, today, the Assad government  said that it fears that the “terrorist groups may resort to using chemical weapons against the Syrian people… after having gained control of a toxic chlorine factory”. So who are we to believe there? Well, a little logic suggests that, since the Western Imperial powers have already stated that Assad using chemical weapons would be a ‘red line’ that would trigger a NATO bombardment and Assad eventually pulled out of a ‘spider hole’ in a carefully staged photo-op, Assad has nothing to gain and everything to lose, including his life, from using such weapons. The warmongers however, desperately need a causus belli to kick-start the NATO bombing, and the appearance of Assad using chemical weapons is clearly the causus of choice.

Incidentally, if the USS Eisenhower ends up engaging in an attack on Syria, it will be with more than a little irony.  Newly discovered documents show that in 1957 Harold Macmillan and President Dwight Eisenhower approved a CIA-MI6 plan to stage fake border incidents as an excuse for an invasion by Syria’s pro-western neighbours, and then to “eliminate” the most influential triumvirate in Damascus.
