Newtown Shooting: A Syndrome Of A Troubled Society?
In a concerning shift of sentiment, a majority of Americans, based on a new WaPo-ABC poll, now see the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary as a sign of broader problems in society (as opposed to an ‘isolated’ incident). While there remains widespread – and intense – opposition to banning the sale of handgunds in general (though high-capacity ammo clip restrictions are just as broadly despised), from the 2007 Virgina Tech shootings to this year’s Aurora theater massacre, the poll results below suggest societal problems are becoming ever more critical in our nation’s thinking.
At least the sheep are understanding this problem. This has nothing to do with religion either. This isnot gods wrath or anything like that. Its about a society who has become numb to death. We have been at perpetual war for 11 years now, you cant not watch your local news and see something about someone dying. Then you get these mass shootings and serial killings and home invasions that the mainstream media just blasts in your face for months, no wonder weve become numb to it. We are outraged at the deaths of 26 innocents in connecticut but at the sametime dont blink an eye do kill 26 innocents in afghanistan or yemen or pakistan. There is no difference. They bleed like us, love like us, believe in a higher power. It’s time to change that. Time to feel something for our fellow human beings again. Stop hating, start loving. ~Ophelia
