How To Take Videos Legally
There seems to be some major confusions running and seriously romped around in the USA regarding cell phone or cameras being used to video or take pictures of Civil servants and others at crime scenes and others.
Some police agencies are actually stealing peoples equipment without a warrant or legal justification. That is a crime.
The government has approved the use of video cameras by private companies, in public places and even in Police cars for their use against people and for use as evidence in crime scenes.
The people did not ever give their permission to be secretly videotaped in public places either.
So why all the harassment on the citizens by the police and officials?
Until this is legally resolved is there anything people can do to prevent this attack against our US Constitutional right?
YES THERE IS.
As a legal volunteer Reporter for BIN, you have a legal PRESS PASS that will enable you to act accordingly. To make that happen:
1. Copy your Press Pass image on BIN.
2. Add your real name and date joined and Photo
3. Print it out and Laminate it.
4. Wear it on your shirt when needed in plain view.
5. Keep a safe distance as ordered by police. For your safety.
6. Write all other relevant information down on a notepad for reference in your story. Names, IDs etc witnesses names and all
possible facts at the scene.
That makes it official but there is more to do. Once that is done you must carry another ID as well to be safe. NOW, act like a reporter and be a reporter. You are no longer just a citizen taking photos or videos so act responsible and be more professional in your words and actions and you will get the video or pics and the story as it unfolds. They can not stop you. Be as cooperative and respectful as possible but let them know you are a reporter doing live breaking news coverage.
Also get a computer program that will automatically upload any video or pic to your personal computer from your cell so in case, you have a copy. Post the news unbiased and truthful and do not exaggerate or blow up something out of proportion or be misleading. NO Sensational false headlines. Stick to facts available not opinion unless stated as such. Do not let feelings interfere with your contacts with them. Get the story and post it on BIN. WALA

Thanks Wizard but I did my homework. Basically this article is to better inform the BIN Reporter on how to take their videos safely and wear their PRESS PASS when doing so.
Just a suggestion:
Perhaps you should read all the news reports of Police taking peoples cameras and cells from them or demanding that they stop taking it so you are aware of it. All the reports are indicative that we have no right to video the police and that is what this is all about. Get aware and be in the know, the truth is everywhere on this subject and especially on YOUTUBE. Please See it for yourself.
Many people have been arrested for taking a video of police all across the USA. So I guess the police are not aware that it is legal. ??????
There is one new video that shows a security guard at an OHIO Mall harassing citizens taking video of a wreck before she tried to assault one of the people, whom kicked her Bxt, haha. She was fired later and that is just where we are headed until it is stopped.
As reporters we are legal for sure if we go about it in a professional way and manor but citizens may have a harder time of it until it is resolved legally in a federal court. Each State is making problems for citizens videotaping the police. But yet, they can video us anytime for any reason even without our permission as well as private businesses. So, where is it all going?
This is a positive article, though it’s important to note there are a few states, I believe eleven, that prohibit taping/recording police without their consent. The majority of states respect the right to tape in public, but it’s a good idea ot be aware of which (degenerate) states may have overriding consent law.
Just a couple of weeks ago I was searching for some way to get an official-looking press ID and didn’t come up with much. So this is a very welcome idea. Been working on adding my name and join date to a pdf of the press ID in my profile – but I can’t find a join date anywhere. Probably I just didn’t look the right place. Any idea where to find it?
(This is almost as much fun as making a new birth certificate for the President!)

Decades in the business of photography have taught me that a lot of respect, plus a big camera bag full of SLRs and lenses, plus a tripod , will get me where others can’t go. This will not be abused. It’s one more tool in the bag.
is it best to use vhs or beta video….
One could take some video on Beta, if one had such an heirloom antique camera, but I doubt there’d be anything to play it back on in a current news studio.
