Ask.fm - Murder Or Manslaughter Charges?

Peodiphiles. Killers. Rapists. Kidnappers. How do we know that anonymous users aren’t any of these things on ask.fm?

Once again the social networking site ask.fm is in the news. This site was launched in June 2010 and, is a free social networking site where you can ask other users questions, the bit that gets me is a lot of the questions asked are from anonymous users.

It has been reported that advertisers have pulled off from this site due to another case of cyber bullying among our teens.

Erin Gallagher and Ciara Pugsley from Ireland committed suicide last year, due to cyber bullying from this site. The latest in a long list of teen suicides is young 14 year old girl Hannah Smith, from Lutterwork in Leicestershire in the UK. She committed suicide last Friday, after she had been cyber bullied on ask.fm.

Should this website be charged with murder or manslaughter charges? Hannah Smith’s father thinks they should be, and is calling for more regulation of social networking sites.

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, said internet users should boycott “vile” websites which allow cyber bullying to avoid more deaths of young people who receive abuse online.

In New Zealand police are urging parents and schools to block the site. New Zealand police have told Latvian-based ask.fm several months ago that its website is linked to cyber bullying in New Zealand. Kiwi mothers are once again calling for this site to be shut down.

How many young teens are we prepared to sacrifice to this web site? It’s time for parents to get more pro active and block this site on their childrens, and home computers. We need to make sure that our schools have that site blocked. It’s obvious ask.fm isn’t going to take responsibility for the actions of it’s users, so we as a community of adults need to get together and start boycotting this site.

Please, Please talk to your children about this, don’t let them become another statistic, let them know that they can come and talk to you about these things.
