20 per cent of the global workforce telecommutes

Of the nearly twenty per cent of global worker that telecommute, nearly ten per cent work from home every day.

43 per cent of employees surveyed said they work remotely more often than two to three years ago.

Of all teleworkers worldwide, 84 per cent telework at least once per month.

In the United States

As of 2010, 26.2 million Americans, nearly 20 per cent of the U.S. adult working population telework.

Seventy-seven per cent of companies with more than 2,500 employees allow remote working

39 per cent of companies with fewer than five employees offer the same option

Public sector

Out of 684,000 federal employees deemed eligible for telework, twenty-four per cent are currently teleworking

Private sector

Per cent of U.S. private sectors workers who telecommute could reach thirty per cent by 2019.

The perks

89 per cent of polled respondents consider the opportunity to work remotely as 1 of 3 main perks (along with salary and reputation).

Out of 950 tech professionals polled, just over 1/3 of them would accept a 10 per cent pay cut if they could work from home full-time.

Of people who work at home, forty-three per cent admit to watching a movie or TV while they’re “working.”

Of people who work at home, twenty per cent admit to playing video games while they are “working.”

The pitfalls

13 out of 14 common workplace problems occur more frequently when employees are in different locations

Use of computer security monitoring programs will rise from fewer than 10 per cent now to 60 per cent by 2015.
