10 Most Mysterious plane Crashes of all Time

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Plane Crashes happen all the time. Most of the time it’s easy to figure out what happened. Some of the biggest plane crashes though are still huge mysteries to this day! We are taking a look at the top 10 today.

10. Flight 19 – 1945
Flight 19 was a routine training mission performed by the US army. 5 planes disappeared during the mission when they were flying over the Bermuda Triangle never to be seen again. A search plane, looking for the planes, disappeared from the radar a few hours later in the same location. Total loss: 6 planes and their pilots…

9. Amelia Earhart – 1937
Amelia Earhart, pictured on the right was a famous American explorer in her time. She was trying to fly around the world when her plane disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Many people have tried finding her plane but it has never been recovered.

8. EgyptAir Flight 990
This crash is surrounded by mystery. The plane plummeted from the sky and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. All 217 people on board were killed. Multiple investigations were launched by different parties.  The US determined that the copilot was suicidal and deliberately took down the plane. An investigation by the Egyptians led to the conclusion that mechanical failure was the cause. Accusations of a terrorist attack keep surfacing. The final recordings on the voice recorder had the pilot asking: “What is this? What is this? Did you shut the engines?” Meanwhile, the copilot was repeating, “I rely on God.”

7. Flight 191
This listing is pretty sick because it’s not about one particular flight. Flight 191 is the number 13 among planes. Since the 1960′s 5 flights that had the number 191 have gone down….

6. Sukhoi Superjet 100 – 2012
The Sukhoi Superjet 100, 2012 disappeared off the radar during a demonstration flight somewhere near Indonesia. A search was launched and the plane was found on a volcano. The 45 people that were on board the plane had all died. To this day the cause of the crash is one big mystery.

The top 5 most mysterious plane crashes can be found in this interesting video below. The number 4 crash in the video is lacking some info: The offical concluding statement about that crash can be found below the video.

The official reading given by The National Transportation Safety Board on what caused USAir flight 427 to crash: The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of the USAir flight 427 accident was a loss of control of the airplane resulting from the movement of the rudder surface to its blowdown limit. The rudder surface most likely deflected in a direction opposite to that commanded by the pilots as a result of a jam of the main rudder power control unit servo valve secondary slide to the servo valve housing offset from its neutral position and overtravel of the primary slide.
