Bizarre Sea Creature Caught Off Miami Beach

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

A rarely seen sea creature that normally lives at the depths of the ocean has been snagged by Captain Mark Quartiano, better known as Mark the Shark.

The odd-looking creature was caught off Miami Beach. According to Quarantino, who posted the photograph in his Instagram account over the weekend, the huge beast is a Dactylobatus clarkii or Hookskate.

I swim in the ocean but I never go out further than say 10-20 feet from shore and even then I have come acrossed sea monsters.  Last time I was at the beach a bunch of jellyfish washed up.  Ever seen a Jellyfish in real life?   The weirdest, oddest looking things you ever saw and they hurt too!  The oceans are full of unknowns and if you’ve ever read H.P. Lovecraft, you would want to keep it that way. The ocean creeps me out, too many unknowns in its dark depths.  Just so you know what I mean, I’ve included a shock video for affect, 5 most bizarre deep sea creatures.  Enjoy..   -Mort

It’s just a freaking stingray, what’s so bizarre about that?

While snorkeling off the coast of Thailand, I had an encounter with a huge monster, however harmless (?) Swimming at the bottom in about 15 feet of water, a shadow came over me. The water got very cold due to a sting ray blocking the sun. Its wing span was around 10 feet. I got so scared, my friends said it looked like I was running on top of the water as I rushed getting out of the water on to the little island we were camping on.

Hey cowardly person afraid to use his/her real name! have you ever looked up while in the ocean and saw a creature bigger than you? Besides, you haven’t heard of the Australian stabbed by a string ray?

    • greenghost

      Just a common ray.

    • DQ

It was Steve Irwin who was stabbed by the stingray, which was much much smaller than this one. This is just a gigantic stingray, common in many asian waters.

      Very cool video Mort :)

I was glad to read the following in the original article; it should have been included here in BIN, also. “The beast was captured, tagged and released back into the ocean.”

BIN just wants the shock effect. :-/

Nice catch. You’re going to need a bigger boat.
