HHS Seeks to Eliminate Doctor Patient Confidentiality Agreements

A new proposal recently submitted by the United States Health and Human Services department (HHS) seeks to eliminate patient confidentiality agreements between American citizens and their doctors. The HHS recently made over therush order of a medication to treat radiation poisoning on a large scale.  This new proposal seeks to make the divulgence of sealed medical records a standard part of background checks done for weapons purchases within the United States.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) ensures that information shared between Americans and their doctors stay private.  Should the ideas of this proposal become law, that privacy will no longer be afforded to American citizens, in certain cases.

This proposal intends to work by showing “mental health prohibitors” when performing background checks on individuals seeking to purchase firearms within the United States. While sounding innocent enough, one can imagine the power of the proposal being found in the definition of “mental health prohibitors.”
