Could be rare examples of earthquake lights -
1906, about 100 km northwest of San Francisco, a couple saw streams of light running along the ground two nights preceding that region’s great earthquake.

1923. Japan, Tokyo and Yokohama, destroyed by Great Kanto earthquake, 150,000 killed, “weird magnetic effects” noted.
An earthquake light is an unusual luminous aerial phenomenon that reportedly appears in the sky at or near areas of tectonic stress, seismic activity, or volcanic eruptions. Once commonly challenged, it was not until photographs were taken during the Matsushiro earthquake swarm in Nagano, Japan (which occurred from 1965 through 1967) that the seismology community acknowledged their occurrence.

Earthquake lights from Tagish Lake, Yukon-Alaska border region, around the 1st of July, probably 1972 or 1973 (exact date unknown). Estimated size: 1m diameter. Closest orbs slowly drifted up the mountain to join the more distant ones.

On November 12, 1988, a bright purple-pink globe of light moved through the sky along the St. Lawrence River near the city of Quebec, 11 days before a powerful quake. /earthquakes/2014/01/mysterious-earthquake-lights-linked-to-rifts-2483590.html
In which case a big seismic event could be due, maybe something similar to the 1811/12 US Earthquake when the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers run backward for three days.
I have seen these before in other articles over the last several years.
It seems they are a rear occurrence do the atmospheric conditions involving temperature, moisture and other factors. Very cold in Ohio right now.
Nothing new with these photos.
The best ones I saw were photos in Russia during one of their winters, several years ago.

Nothing mystical here. Quite common here in Finland.
Yet, very trippy.
The weatherman said it was ice crystals, NOT clouds.
Which word did you not understand OP?
It can still be a clear and cloudless sky and there be ice crystals floating about the in the wind. Once they had some lights shining on them they lit up the sky.
Wow, OP missed that grade school science class so he could play football….
idiot. How superior do you need to feel today derp? Better now that you attempted to trash someone else?
Maybe ask mommy for a cookie
its been explained to you idiot, if you cant still understand, maybe go ask a 5 year old.
Strange!
No, naturally occuring weather phenomenon. They are cool looking, though. Or, are they the lizard aliens shooting down their particle rays from their cloaked cloudships? YOU DECIDE! LOLOLOLOLOL.
mitch51…whats your deal? you sit at your computer and nag on bible believers all day? If you aren’t getting paid for this then you are more pathetic than pathetic.
Nothing mysterious about this. Here in Fairbanks Alaska, where it is always cold, we see this daily. Come on, Man!
I live in Lancaster, Ohio and saw the same lights this morning. I actually thought they were northern lights at first. What I noticed is they were only located over lighted city areas. Once I got in the country there was nothing. My conclusion is that they were caused by ground based lights shone straight up that were reflected off of…ice crystals. Hell I aint even a weatherman and yet I figured it out myself. I might be a hilljack but I aint stupid.
On a side note…no UFOs, angels, fallen angels, star gates, worm holes, or chupacabras were seen any where near the light columns. I was sober at the time, wasn’t probed, and did not experience any weird time shift. On the other hand I was pretty cold because it was friggin cold out…cold enough for ice crystals I might add. -4°F my ass…roll on Groundhog Day already.
Plenty of ice crystals way up in the atmosphere, even on a sunny day. Beautiful photos.
Okay really guys? These are all over the place, they come from lights, whether they’re street lights or yard lights or even headlights. i see them every single night whenever its cold here in South Dakota, which is just about every night
” So where then do ice crystals come into play Mr. Weatherman?”
When there are no clouds and more light? When there is ice? When there no clouds to keep the heat in?
Interesting photos though.
The Ice crystals are still in the air from a previous snowstorm, and the temperatures are sub-zero.
I have some great pictures from Michigan too.
It has nothing to do with Nibiru being stuck in the inner solar system since 2003
Happens in Canada.
This was on the local Cleveland news.
It is ice crystals in the air reflecting the street lights.
i used to live in a little town outside of mansfield called nankin…like really small town, no gas station, 1 room school, alot of amish…etc…and this was in late 90′s..anyhow..seen the lights before not to uncommon.
Licensed weather observer here and yes those are ice crystals. Common up north and a very cold weather event.
I’ve seen them here in Minnesota too. I learned that it only happens in the ‘right’ weather conditions during the winter (when it’s damn cold!). I have to say that when you do see them, however, it is amazingly cool and really freaky at the same time!! No worries though…I don’t think????
Are you kidding me?? I believe this site should be renamed “Before it’s found out we use sensastionalism to get people to our site in hopes they click on the advertising links.” Seriously, grow up and experience life, preferably in a colder climate, so you know this “phenomenon” is a normal occurance in very cold tempuratures. Wow. Just. Wow.
You could be in TERRIBLE DANGER ! ! These types of lights have often been seen just before MASSIVE earthquakes have struck. There’s an article by a guy from National Geographic about this topic. You can view it at:

I live in Ohio & have NEVER in all my 60+ years have I ever seen anything like this!
If you’ll notice all the light sources are behind something. It’s the only way to see these columns of light. And yes it is very fine ice crystals suspended in the air when the temperature drops to or below the due point.
How do I know this you’re asking? I lived in North Dakota for while and saw this all the time.
Hi everyone, i saw a pillar of light in a dry field in Cape Town South Africa. We are in Spring now and the weather is clear. I have never seen anything like this before. It was situated in a field nowhere near any lights. the air was warm and we never get really cold weather enough to produce ice crystals. Beside that, this area is prone to weird happenings. I am not promoting that it is anything paranormal but it is unheard of in Cape Town and also attracted many onlookers who passed this dark feild last night.
What are the weatherman going to say this is seein we are all the way in Cape Town and the ‘ice crystals’ do not match with our climate. any and all comments welcomed. i would just like to know what this could be as the previous night we had some dancing lights all across oyr skies and we have never experienced this either. thank you.
