TV’s Freddie Starr arrested for third time over sex abuse claims

TV comedian Freddie Starr has been arrested for the third time in connection to sexual abuse allegations made against him.

The 71-year-old was arrested at a police station in Warwickshire after the claim was made to detectives working on Operation Yewtree  after voluntarily attending the station. He also faces further allegations of sexual offences.

Starr was first arrested in November 2012 over claims involving Jimmy Savile and others, following allegations that he tried to molest a 14-year-old girl in Savile’s BBC dressing room in the 1970s.

He was then re-arrested in April last year over additional allegations, the details of which have not been made available.

Upon his arrest Scotland Yard did not name the TV star, but said:

“On Tuesday January 14, “Yewtree 2″ was further arrested after attending a police station in Warwickshire by prior appointment.

“The arrest relates to a further allegation made to Operation Yewtree, which falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed ‘others’. We are not prepared to discuss further.

“Yewtree 2 was arrested on November 1 2012 on suspicion of sexual offences and taken into custody. These allegations fall under the strand we have termed ‘Savile and others’.

“He was subsequently released on bail pending further inquiries.”

Starr denies any wrong doing.
