W. Virginia Water Burns Woman's Leg (PHOTO)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Water in the West Virginia chemical leak area burned a woman’s leg when he showered, according to WSAZ on Facebook.

The West Virginia CNN affiliate WSAZ, that posted the photo of the burned leg, is asking if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

While residents on some zones were given the OK to again use bath water after flushing their tanks, they needed to have flushed their entire plumbing system, at least. Even that would probably not work on first or even second attempt, according to scientists speaking under anonymity with this author.

Reliable information on health and safety of Crude MCHM is unavailable, as officials admit, so it is questionable that they are giving an all-clear to anyone in the affected area.

One thing publicly know about Crude MCHM, is that it is not very water soluble. This might make it extremely difficult to adequately flush from home water systems using plain water.

Suffering in West Virginia water is nothing new to some residents, they say.

“My youngest daughter had this to some degree after every bath in WV,” says a WSAZ commenter, adding that the burns went away. She moved to another state after six years of water burns.

Another resident, Joe Ball, who lives near Freedom Industries’ facility, also commented on the burns.

“[I] lived about 2 miles by air from the tank. I have had this problem though not as severe for over a year. I have also played ‘whats that stink?’ when i go outside for over a year.”

It is unknown how many people have been injured by the mystery chemical, recently or over past years.

Corrections: This original article included, “The U.S. Navy laboratory at Norfolk Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Va., reported on the chemical crisis that the only acceptable level of the chemical in any oral form is less than 0.057 ppm, less than 1/16th amount that Governor Tomblin had said was an acceptable level.” The source of this, related to the Navy, is unverifiable as it appears to have been deleted from the original source. The author extends apologies and will update readers on the Navy report if verified information is provided to her. The article also referred to the photo being of a man’s leg. It is a photo of woman’s leg.

Undoubtedly it will turn out that people in many places have been exposed to unsafe levels of MCHM. Probably coal processing operators have failed to report other spills. And since the substance has not been adequately tested, it may well have serious health effects after acute or chronic exposure.

It IS soluble. That’s why you can’t flush it out. If it was insoluble, you would be able to separate it like oil and water.

By the way, you need to source this story.

Jack I think you missed my source on the 2nd line: “WSAZ, that posted the photo of the burned leg, is asking if anyone else has experienced the same thing.”

It absolutely amazes me how We the People continue to allow them to poison us and destroy the very things that sustain our life……when will society wake up and tell corporate American and the Government that we are done being poisoned and killed so they can live in the lap of luxury?

This is a complete outrage! Koch Industries has a location just south of St. Louis, Missouri on the Mississippi River. What will it take for them to create another “spill”…a New Madrid Fault earthquake?

Reports on TV news, if they are to be believed, are indicating that many residents along the river where this spill took place are still being warned not to drink the water, to drink bottled water instead. They showed a warehouse where pallets of bottled water were being stored. Something not right about this story.

Thank you for asking about that. The ban was lifted for only some of the 300,000 people. Sorry that was not clear.

I can help source your story. That’s my leg, my picture, from my Facebook page. WSAZ picked it up from me. I’m not trying to gain anything from this, by the way. I only posted it to warn that some people, sensitive people like me, might still have problems with the water.
