Gay Marriages Anti-God? Record 55% Am. Approve

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

A record 55 percent of Americans support same sex marriage, according to a new poll, but many still view homosexuality as anti-God.

Some 55 percent of Americans now say they support same-sex marriage, the highest number since Gallup polling on the question began in the 1990s, according to a new Gallup poll.

A federal judges this week struck down same-sex marriage bans in Pennsylvania and Oregon.

Support has been climbing for gay marriages, growing from 40 percent to 53 percent between 2009 and 2011-2012, with the most recent numbers before showing 54 percent support in 2012.

In 1996, the first time Gallup completed a same-sex-marriage survey, 68 percent opposed it. Inn 2004, only 64 opposed it.

Same-sex marriage is now legal in 17 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, though several states are legally battling it, appealing judges’ rulings overturning bans on same-sex marriage, according to Gallup.

[See States Where Same-Sex Marriage Is Legal (Infographic)]

Those debating gay marriage and homosexuality believe strongly in their convictions. The two loudest voices are from the gay community and religious community. Gays favor same-sex marriage and many religious communities oppose it.

Religious groups, predominantly from a Christian based faith, are the single most influential force in attempts to keep same-sex marriage illegal.

Are religious groups opposing same-sex marriage holding on to a faith-based objection that denies gays and lesbians a basic human right?

We don’t give a hank about being married before you Gods because they do not serve us, nor do your churches as they spew bigotry and hate and justify it with a 2000 year old book.

What we do care about is that the state recognizes us as a couple, thus allowing us the same privileges you heterosexual couples enjoy, such as being able to visit a dying partner in the hospital, or not having our shared property being able to be stolen by children of former hetero marriages.

What you take for granite, we cannot. Voting for an unrighteous law or bill cannot be justified in today’s world, yet you would deny parts of a society to be as they choose just because you don’t agree with their life style.

“Are religious groups opposing same-sex marriage holding on to a faith-based objection that denies gays and lesbians a basic human right?”

Without trotting out the large body of scripture and other deep theological, as well as societal, implications, the Bible is in opposition to same-sex “marriage.” There is no such thing as “marriage” of same sexes. To the Christian, this does come down to whether to be obedient to what we know as the word of God in the Bible, or turn away from God and what are clear teachings of Christianity. People can jump up and down, foam at the mouth, decry “2000 year old” books, but we know the word of God will stand, the Bible His book, and we who love and respect our Lord and holy God are obligated to obey Him. I am not going to go about, trying to right the wrongs of a fallen world, have no interest, as a Christian, to correct mankind’s further slide into sin and rebellion against One, actually, the God over all, whether we all see this or not: the Christian is not obliged to or called upon to correct the sins of the world. On the other hand, we are never going to approve of anything that is a direct affront to our faith and our Lord, never going to recommend the rebirth of Sodom and Gomorrah as a viable alternative for mankind. If society insists on “marrying” homosexuals, well, like pornography, have at it and any consequences, but, in all fairness, don’t expect Christians to align with putting a silk hat on that pig. You who mock us, well, we don’t agree with you, either, and we never will. If you can get by with it, have anal sex in the middle of the road, but don’t expect a unanimous voting of the Good Housekeeping Seal for things destructive of the marriage covenant, morally offensive to God, and offensive to those who love Him. At least have the intellectual presence of mind to not seek the approval of real Christians, who will never share your world view: this works both ways.

Dear Just, Just thought you might be interested in knowing that homophobia, that is a very uncomfortable state, is treatable, I’m told, just like any other phobia. Kind of like racism, both of which Nazi’s held in high esteem.

In Nazi Germany, according to Wikipedia (1): “Upon the rise of Adolf Hitler, gay men and, to a lesser extent, lesbians, were two of the numerous groups targeted by the Nazi Party and were ultimately among Holocaust victims. Beginning in 1933, gay organizations were banned, scholarly books about homosexuality, and sexuality in general, were burned, and homosexuals within the Nazi Party itself were murdered. The Gestapo compiled lists of homosexuals, who were compelled to sexually conform to the ‘German norm.’

Between 1933 and 1945, an estimated 100,000 men were arrested as homosexuals, of whom some 50,000 were officially sentenced. Most of these men served time in regular prisons, and an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 of those sentenced were incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps. . . .

Homosexuals in the camps were treated in an unusually cruel manner by their captors.” Gay men, at least, were forced to wear a pink triangle even before the Jews were forced to wear a yellow Star of David.

I know many Christians who walk the talk – and approve same-sex marriages. They have not set themselves up as a judge – which, as I recall, Jesus said is not the stuff of God. It seems, however, your brand of Christianity and your Bible some how omits that?

        • Mirabolin

Not being homophobic is anti-racist is the point. Labotomies are also cures for thought and castration for the propgation of inferior genes. With every post you make you just reveal yourself to be more and more insane. The most extreme for of anti-racism was slavery and it’s stripping people of all their ‘threatening’ to their would be elitists masters characteristics. Like their families, their ethnic communities, their ethnic histories and ethnic religions and all other life supports that their massahs saw as thretening to them. This was the imposition of anti-racism and was intended to ‘cure’ them of their innate evil’s threat to their massahs. So they were ‘cured’. Fo their sellers, massahs, cultural marxists, employers and state.

Your polls are incorrect. Most Americans and the rest of the world are not in agreement with this new definition marriage. Even Alexander the Great a Homo and ruler of Rome could not marry his butt buddy. So to claim this is right and normal is a joke. You are saying all past people including your ancestors are wrong, all governments, almost all religions up to the 20th century, yes this includes, Christians, Muslims, Jews and on and on. It takes a man and a woman to create all of us as it should be unless you were born from a pitri dish. Homo’s are bigots worse than the religious people as they threaten boycotts and have people fired for believing in the law of nature. They cant even use Gay in the right content. It means happy, and equality they claim is a joke as they do not include incest, age discrimination, plural marriage in their agenda for equality. The worse part about this ordeal is the Democrats not respecting the right of votes from its citizens and claiming after hundreds of years the constitution is violated? Im glad I left that party as it has become a pool of dung.

Like I mentioned above, Truthout lets us know:

‘Is homophobia an inborn or acquired characteristic? The related question is: “Is homophobia curable?” While we know that homosexuality is inborn (4), the nature of homophobia has not been studied. I suggest, with some urgency, that the time has come to do so. In Nazi Germany official anti-gay discrimination eventually led to attempts at extermination. In this country, just recently a man described as a “pastor,” one Charles Worley, has seriously proposed rounding up all “lesbians, queers and homosexuals,” and depositing them in an open camp surrounded by an electrified fence, and except for air-dropping food, leaving them there to die (5, 6).

Yes indeed. It is becoming ever more urgent to know if homophobia is curable.

One can here propose the outlines of such a study. Before addressing the question of curability” per se, the question of whether homophobia is inborn, like homosexuality, or an acquired/learned behavior, like racism and anti-Semitism, would need to be addressed. The starting point would be to consider the various sub-sets of homophobes. There are the religious types like Worley, Falwell, and Robertson, who are quite open about it. There are the political types, like Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove (who motivated religious-rightists to go to the polls to vote for GW Bush in 2004 by putting anti-gay marriage initiatives on the ballots of 11 states), and Mitt Romney. There are the closeted, homosexual, Republican political homophobes, like former Senator Larry Craig. (It happens that he has just been sued by the Federal Election Commission for using campaign funds in his defense on the matter of getting caught in that men’s room [7].) Then there are the homophobic religious organizations, like the Mormon Church which was the major financial and personnel engine behind the overturn of gay marriage in California. That is one starting point for the study.

From the epidemiological perspective there are several others, which we do not have the space to consider here. If it is found that homophobia is an acquired characteristic, it is not only curable but preventable. Nevertheless, sad to say, in this country at least, as long as the GOP continues to use homophobia politically, without being directly challenged in that political usage, with the potentially extremely dangerous outcome that has now been verbalized by Charles Worley, no cure will be possible.

Finally, is the situation thus hopeless? No, not at all.”

      • JustAComment

There’s a dimension to this that goes beyond becoming a designated, protected minority, based on proclivities to engage in unnatural behaviors. It’s as if many homosexuals are livid to force approval from those who don’t approve of their agenda. It’s like frackers who get their fracking rights not content with this, but expecting the environmentalists or people who like clean and safe drinking water to also smile at them. I believe any opposition is a mirror hard to bear, for people with restless consciences, everything in the Bible, as usual,

        John 3

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

It’s not enough to get the system to grant them rights that fly in the face of the very definition of marriage and thousands of years of civilization, they’re clearly having a hard time that this doesn’t remove the light that, nonetheless, shines, no matter what corrupt men may try and dignify. It’s as if, you look at them askew, and they start crying like babies, hence the political “correctness” they try to shove down everybody’s throats. As a Christian, you don’t approve of me? Yawn. So what else is new? We seem to so widely differ, as I don’t have an iota of expectation that any Godless person keep their mouth shut and smile at me, and I have no need for or expectation of their approval to validate who I am. Nor would I ever go to a porn shop and demand they sell Bibles. Wouldn’t such a thing be a sign of some pathological, totalitarian fear and insecurity?

Americans are the dregs of their ONE media corporation and no family, no ethnicity, no community and no history and no education.

All the words below come from the same gn root in etymological meaning (including KNowledge and GRowth – they have just become spelt a little differently)

To know someone biblically is to consumate a valid relationship and the most true form of genuine marriage – what is unconsummated can be annuled by one side alone as such a relationship is not a married relationship.

who cares if gay people want to be ‘married’. so what?

anyone who justifies an argument because of their imaginary friend up in the sky are the ones with the problem. a reality problem !

even taking aside 7,000 years of death, torture and destruction on the grounds of made up gods, these irrational ‘beliefs’ are akin to a form of mental illness.

i wish we could cure that. the world would be a much better place.

      • Mirabolin

Yes well you also don’t see why people shouldn’t be killed for leather clothing. It’s just elements! It’s all the same! What’s the difference?! “Are the elements 2% of the population that are gay and want all offspring to have no rights to their heterobiased inheritence? Or at least no more than any turd off the street?”

“not having our shared property being able to be stolen by children of former hetero marriages.”

As with all ex-fundies who wanna be have the authoritarianism that they think the ‘intelligenzia’ and scientific realists have plsnogod your narcissism confuses YOUR inability to understand anything with other peoples lack of your intelligence and therefore an argument.

You do not see the difference between people being alive and people being killed for leather clothing because your authoritarian realism considers both to just be a collection of elements. The only time you might respond otherwise is when you are offered the alternative choices between babby steps closer to that goal in which case you will chose equalization downwards – from not $2 a day to $2 a day or from aspects of heterosexuality (such as children) being equalized downwards to equality with gays (who if they HAD been heterosexual would certainly have been impregnated – even without the impregnator knowing – and so should be treated as though they, if they have ever had sex with someone, were equal with his or her.
