In reality: The North Korean figure that was quickly dismissed as propaganda is actually low; the current number is 344,000. In reality: Gut instinct would say that these numbers are obviously wrong. After a little research, one would find that 47.8 million people are living in poverty in the United States. Once again, the Koreans were a little conservative in their estimate. While the word “famine” can be attributed to the North Korean flair for drama, the fact is that just under a third of New Yorkers reported having trouble affording food.
