A device containing radioactive substances including cesium-37 and americium-beryllium, was stolen from a government research facility in Mexico. Authorities are currently working to track down the group of men who grabbed the device Sunday night during an assault on a National Construction Laboratory warehouse in Tultitlan, Mexico state.

About 5 minutes ago I was on another post checking out an article and just finished up with it and it had been about:

The only problem with this bomb is that is was made by Americans inside Mexico and therein lies the problem. Made in Mexico. It may not detonate.
Isn’t this an old story? I remember some guys stole a truck with radioactive material from several hospitals. The men were later found very sick from radiation exposure. Maybe someone figured out from that where to get the material, and then use for blackmail (or worse).
Dirty bomb? Does that mean it went through the white house at one point? That would definitely make it dirty.

So, sounds like a a bomb was not stolen, lets make that clear, since this headline, and video failed to do so. A dirty bomb, is one someone takes a conventional explosive, and packs it with some form of radioactive chemical or substance.
This article says, those chemicals weren’t stolen, a device that contains them was. The Place the device was stolen from, is the “National Construction Laboratory”. The main applications of those chemicals, is in drilling devices, as a lubricant. And in thermoelectric generators.
So more than likely, what got stolen is a fancy drill, most likely used for oil extraction, that uses these 2 elements in its design, most likely as a lubricant, and a power source. This drill is most likely what got stolen.
Exposure to these 2 elements, unprotected, would only pose temporary health concerns.
In other words, it would be a pretty crappy dirty bomb.
I’m betting someone just stole a big expensive looking tool, and is looking to turn around and sell it.
