Mexican Youth 'Burned Alive'

Catholic priest and human rights activist Fr. Alejandro Solalinde has informed Mexico’s federal Attorney General Jesus Murillo that the 43 missing students, whose disappearance by gang member hit-men police are sparking massive protests across Mexico and around the globe, were burned alive.

“They were injured, and because they were injured, they have burned them alive,” Fr. Solalinde, 69, told RIA Novosti Thursday.

Fr. Solalinde, a human rights activist and migrant rights advocate, runs a shelter for refugees in the Mexican State of Oaxaca.

The priest said that the 43 students abducted by the police-drug cartel members were killed, according to witnesses’ testimonies.

Fr. Solalinde’s information came from four witnesses, including one person related to the Iguala municipal police who revealed that the students were taken to a rural area of the Mexican State, Guerrero.

The Ayotzinapa Teacher Training College students went missing on September 27. They were last seen when police forced them into vans after opening fire on them, killing six of them.

The Mexican government has offered a $75,000 reward for any information leading to the students’ whereabouts.

The governor of the state of Guerrero stepped down Wednesday after news reports circulated that the mayor of Iguala had ordered the local police and their partnered drug gang members to “teach the students a lesson” and that his wife is a major leader of the same drug cartel.

“The War on Drugs is killing people in the US and in Latin America. It needs to stop,” responded a School of the Americas Watch Facebook page user Arturo Viscarra.

Large anti-government corruption rallies have been held in several Mexican cities and cities around the glove such as London since the students’ disappearance.

To gain attention about the violently corrupt government and the massacre of the 43 students, students have burned government buildings.

Prayer wheels spinning to comfort the students’ parents, families and Fr. Solalinde- a courageous man, especially considering the legacy of other human rights worker priests in Latin America.
