In the context of the controversy over strange Walmart related events, a curious tip was sent to WTF News. Denver metro area Wal-Marts are “no longer open past Midnight” as part of “a test in certain markets”, according to various reports.
After contacting multiple stores at random in the Denver area looking to purchase something just after 12:00am, WTF News was told by employees that the store had just closed. The next logical question was which open store was closest to the downtown area and most of the employees could not tell us. While progressing, some other stores were open only until 1 or 2 am and slated to close earlier in the coming days. Eventually, one caller for WTF News was hung up on at a store in Castle Rock, a town defined by its hour-long commute north to Denver jobs.
During another phone call, an employee noted their store was one of the first to begin the new policy beginning the prior Monday, April 14. The same employee speculated the policy was going to be announced nationally regardless of the “trial” period. Some stores noted they were opening at various times between 5 and 8:00am and closing around the midnight hour. All stores noted the changes were within the last week.
If this is happening as people are kicked off food stamps and unemployment, what else is unknown? As is often said, “As Goes Wal-Mart; So Goes America“, right? The global financial markets are probaby under the most intense pressure since the worst of the 2008 financial crisis, as evidenced by this week’s market outage which led to large losses around the world in most major markets. Is this a sign that Walmart understands things are about to get a lot worse? Here are some more key events leading up to the recent mysteries.

20 years ago I worked a late evening shift and would occasionally stop at Walmart Super Center on my way home, I would wonder how big of a loss they were incurring during the week with a total of 3 to 5 customers hourly after 2 AM? I’m assuming Walmart saw after a certain hour they weren’t generating enough revenue in that region to justify being open as late.
It’s NOT the end of the world is WMs close at 9pm. Get used to living in the slow lanes it would do you all a bit of good NOT to have everything WHENEVER you want it!!
Frankly it matters little to me if they close at 9 pm or stay open all night being that I’m a infrequent shopper of that store.

I go to WM almost 4 times a week between 10 am and 2pm and never outside those hours. Our WM is included in a mall and the rest of the stores close at 9 on Fridays and at 6 on other days. Best way not to spend too much money.
All Wal Marts use to close ay 9 pm, Yes they’re starting to feel the economic crunch, But you haven’t seen nothing yet, compared to what is fixing to happen, the middle class just had the final nail drove in their coffins and the Poor were just made even Poorer, they can say good bye to their income Tax returns and your Doctor bill, well were all FKD.

here in EU, most shops are open at 9 am and are closing at 7/8 pm. The only shops that are open after 7/8 pm are the night shops (but these are mostly expensive) we don’t have and never know the culture of shops that are open all day and all night. On sunday, several shops are open in the morning and are closing on noon! sunday = restday.

My poor Mom works for them and she confirmed that they closed a few of those Wal-Marts. Who knows what for? Plumbing. Really? If that’s the case, why aren’t they compensating their workers while they are “fixing” it??? Why did they lay them off? How long do they damn expect it’s going to take to “fix the plumbing”? Walmart is sick of dealing with nocturnal shoplifters and problem people. Close at midnight where business drops off, and they’re paying employees $10.50 an hour now. Nothing wrong with that. Probably just testing it to see how well it works. I went in right after they started doing this, and allllll the managers were standing around in two different stores in Lakewood moaning about how they can’t stock in time while the others worked hard.
