Slovenia is being overwhelmed by the Middle Eastern and North African migrants who are traveling through the country and ending up stranded near the Austrian border. Estimates are that over 60,000 of these migrants have entered Solvenia during the last week, with many traveling on but thousands staying within the countrys borders.
This has led Miro Cerar, the prime minister of tiny Slovenia, to warn the migrant crisis could be “the end of the European Union (EU) which currently exists.” With a total population of 2.06 million, Slovenia lacks both manpower and equipment to be able to handle the influx of so many migrants.
Meetings in Brussels with other European leaders are being conducted in an effort to determine a plan for dealing with the growing crisis. That includes a way to confront and end the flood od mifrants traveling along the Balkans route. Ever since Hungary closed its border at the beginning of September, the migrants have been diverted through the route in Slovenia.
