DEVELOPING: Dozens Of Industrial-Sized Propane Tanks Stolen From Northeast Philadelphia Facilities

Add Philadelphia to the list of states reporting stolen propane tanks as a new report indicates that Counterterrorism officials and police are searching for a man who stole dozens of industrial propane tanks from two Northeast Philadelphia facilities last week, law enforcement sources tell NBC10.

The tanks were stolen overnight last Thursday from Praxair at 2300 Church Street in Frankford and James Morrissey Inc. at 4720 Pennypack Street in the Holmesburg section of the city, sources said.

Security footage from the facilities show a man loading 43 tanks of various sizes into a dark-colored minivan, according to sources. Twenty-four of the tanks are said to be the size and style used to fuel forklifts, sources said. Also taken were nine tanks that hold 100 pounds of fuel, four 50 pound tanks, four 33 pound tanks and two 2 pound tanks, according to sources. READ MORE

Secret Service Gun, Badge, Radio Stolen In Washington

A handgun, radio and badge were stolen Monday afternoon from the private vehicle of a U.S. Secret Service agent who had parked near the agency’s downtown Washington headquarters.

The theft occurred about 4 p.m. in the 1000 block of G Street NW, two blocks from the Metro Center station and near the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

A D.C. police report says someone “unzipped” a back window — the narrative does not describe the vehicle, but it apparently had a soft top — and took a black Sig Sauer handgun, a department radio, handcuffs, a computer flash drive and a badge, No. 1266.

The theft was first reported by CNN, which said the agent is assigned to the Presidential Protective Division. Robert Hoback, a spokesman for the Secret Service, confirmed what was in the CNN report but offered no other comment. Officials would not discuss agency rules regarding the handling of firearms and other sensitive items.

According to the police report, the agent was returning to his vehicle when he saw a man reach into it, but he told police that he didn’t see the man take anything. He later discovered items missing.

D.C. police report 159 theft-from-auto cases this year in the patrol area that serves the street on which the Secret Service agent parked. That is down from 215 cases at this time in 2014.

Monday’s theft came amid a string of embarrassing or tragic incidents for the Secret Service, including a case in which a member of the uniformed division was charged in November with soliciting a minor for sex while working at the White House. This month, a Secret Service officer was shot and killed, possibly during a robbery. He had been suspended by the agency because he was arrested in a domestic incident.

And before those incidents, a congressional investigation concluded that the Secret Service was an “agency in crisis” following a series of security breaches, including trespassers at the White House. SOURCE
