What we need is military support, just like the U.S. is giving to the Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga. We need a part of the U.S. aid reaching the two governments–the Baghdad government and the Kurdish Regional Government. And we need the U.S. to help make the two governments help us, just like they do with all other official forces in the area.

Turkey’s parliament will block a deal reached with the EU on migrants if Turks do not gain visa-free access to the bloc, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned. The EU says Turkey still needs to meet certain conditions, including changes to its terror laws, something Ankara has refused to do.

Valls has changed his tone on the matter, as the unions have exhibited that they can in fact disrupt fuel supplies around the country. Unions have been striking and blocking fuel supplies from being delivered ever since the government bypassed parliament and enacted unpopular labor reforms earlier this month. Rationing at many of the roughly 12,000 gas stations nationwide has already begun as the pickets have started to create significant fuel shortages in the country.

As I have often noted, a very common response to the decay of the Roman Empire was to opt-out / drop out: in effect, stop working for the Man, stop paying taxes and stop borrowing money. As taxes rose to crushing levels, productive people fled to monasteries or the relative protection of large estates (whose wealthy owners naturally evaded taxes), or simply went off the grid.
